Consulate Review: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 9, 2018
Embassy Review : Today I had my K1 visa interview at the Amsterdam Consulate.

My interview time was 13:00 so I arrived 10 min early. There was no line and I could walk in the moment I arrived.
I was allowed to move over to the next room after they checked my belongings.
Stepping inside of the second room there was a sweet Dutch lady who asked me for my passport, passport photo's and DS-160 confirmation page.
After she took them I sat down and later on she brought the stuff back to me (I guess she put a sticker on my passport where it needs be send back to after approval).
After 10 min I was called up to the first window where the man asked for my:
- Birthcertificate;
- Police certificate (VOG);
- I-134 (petitioner and co-sponsor)
After giving him my documents he told me to take a seat again and wait for my name to be called again.
It kinda looked like he was struggling with all the documents and he was not super orginazed but it went well so that's all that matters.

After 20 min. a lady called my name to window three.
It was a window next to other windows where people were talking and handing over documents.
There is just not a lot of privacy which I don't really mind but maybe good to know.
She started with having me swear that I will tell the truth and nothing else but the truth.
After that she asked me the following questions:
- How did you meet your fiance?
- How did your fiance knew the mutual friend? (me and my Fiance met through a mutual friend)
- So you played softball together with that mutual friend?
- And your mutual friend was in California, that's how your fiancee and him met?
- Neither one of you are married right?
- What is your profession?
- Do you have a degree for that?
- When do you plan on marrying your fiance?
- Do you understand all the rights of the visa?
- When is the last time you saw your fiance?
- Why was that? (I told her that my fiance has lived with me in NL for 18 months)
And there were a few other questions but nothing weird or critical.
After the questions she told me with a smile on her face that my visa was approved and that I will get my passport back within 7-10 business days.

The lady who interviewd me was really sweet and polite.
She even told me how much she liked the letters that my fiance wrote to me. She thought his letters were sweet and his handwriting was manly and so old-school. As a reaction to that I told her that me and my fiance always write each other letters when we are apart from each other.

She was definitely open for an conversation and she only asked more questions to clearify my answers when she got confused or needed to know more.
So just be yourself, believe in your relationship and be confident!

Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
