MIL had her interview on Friday and she was approved. I must admit I was surprised since I was expecting to the direct opposite.

Foreign travel limited to SEA, HK, and Taiwan.

Wife’s family hired an agent in HCMC to do all the leg work. Agent requested I submit paperwork to sponsor.(I134 and supporting  docs) I did this to keep the peace but I know that you can’t sponsor tourist visa.

Any rate it was a good result but I am totally shocked. Hence the MIL will be over for a month in July.

Lol

”shock headline: US consulate grants visa”!!!!

seriously though, happy it worked out. (I also got my very first US tourist visa with everything on paper screaming “denial”. It does happen!) Enjoy having her visit :)

Congratulations.!

My mom got her tourist visa approved a few years ago when we thought she would be denied. Retired senior person with no previous international trips, only daughter living in the US, etc. We had all the numbers for a denial and they approved her. My mom always answered the consular officer with the truth and maybe that is the reason of her approval. She visited us twice already and enjoy her trips.

Well I’d love to take credit but as you know the person applying is the one who has to prove ties to their country for a tourist visa.

It’s a head scratcher for sure but I suppose  she must have done enough to warrant approval.

Wandy good luck with your FIL.

What age is the MIL?

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

My mom just got her tourist Visa too. She failed 2 times before because she said she wanted to visit me, her son. This 3rd time, she told the officer that she wants to visit her dog then they approved it.

Obviously, her son is not as important as her dog lol.

Congrats to your MIL. The State Dept would never say it, but I'm sure age has to be a factor. A friend's mom got a tourist visa a couple months ago. While she is employed and owns her home, she's never left Indonesia before, and her income is low by US standards (a few hundred bucks/moth).

Can I ask what company in HCM you used?  Would like to get my MIL to come visit this year if possible.

I agree age seems to be a big factor, and also if the family has wealth or money plays into it as well.

From what I have seen.

My in laws hired the lady to do the paperwork for my MIL and hold her hand come interview time. Honestly the agent was very un knowledgeable about current practice and the paperwork. I think it was luck with my MIL case rather than anything the agent did.

If based in Saigon I can get her contact info if you like.
