Does US Consulate use lies detectors?

Hello Everyone

out of curiosity, my friend have told me, that actually, at CR1 interview at US Consulate, they fruequently uses computer voice lie detector.

I never heard about it and if it is true, is it actually legal to use any kind of lie detector without my permission or at least knowing?

Do you even know how a lie detector works??? How are they going to use one without your knowledge?

I think you may want to consider making an appointment for a drug test for your friend.

There are voice stress analysis tools - they aren't talking about the traditional one. 

That said, OP, no ofc they can't do that without your permission - and I seriously doubt that it's something they conduct at a consulate!  lol

Even if they had tools like that,as long as you don't lie you're going to be fine. 

 

That being said they definitely don't have those tools at embassies.

Being at a consulate interview is stressful and they'd have to ask you some control questions. It would make no sense to do any type of analysis based on stress. They need a baseline of answers to compare. And they'd have to be trained on that.

Op- proper lie detectors require you to be hooked up to machines. They are not used in embassy interviews.

That being said, the COs are well trained and many have many years experience in reading body language, voice inflection and detective evasive answers.  You might call them "human lie detectors".

You don't require to be hooked up to use voice stress analysis.

No, there is no actual lie detector that they hook you up to, or anything in the room that will read your mind/voice or anything like that.

 

If anything, the staff MAY have had some sort of employee basic-level course in reading body language, but that's probably about it.

 

I think your friend may have been trying to pull your leg.  Or watches too much crime show television.

In some instances, yes, it is legal.  FBI uses wire-tapping for their investigations, when needed, for example.

Maybe I'm wrong....but I think that person meant that you were applying for your green card through your future marriage, not that it's the only reason you got married, and was wishing you luck since they were from the same country (as noted in their profile) ---perhaps their English is not so good?  At least I hope that's how they meant it.
