visiting boyfriend in the us?

In a few months i will be visiting my boyfriend in the us for my first time. He was working in Italy for years, that's where we met.

I already have a return ticket. My biggest fear is what i have to tell immigration officer once i am at the airport.

I am an innocent girl and i can't really lie, i will stay 56 days and i want to say that the purpose of my visit is to visit him.

I don't think they will believe me if i say i am visiting friends, who is going to stay 56 days with friends???

I can even show my savings if needed... i really can't wait to visit him, but this is getting me nervous.

Any advice?

Nothing wrong with visiting your boyfriend, you can say that.

Which country are you from, and have you used your tourist visa before or is this the first time? If it is the first time, what did you say at the tourism visa interview? If you are from Europe and will be visiting on the VWP, you will likely get no questions at all. To be on the safe side, bring some proof that you will return home; letter of leave of absence on your job, proof of enrollment at university for next year, that sort of thing.

I went to the States for 7 weeks to visit my fiance over Christmas, I told them that at my point of entry, they asked to see my return flight confirmation and that was it.

I had bank statements with me but they didn't ask for anything else other than flight confirmation.

I have been over three times every year for the last three years and occasionally get asked questions which I have answered truthfully and never had an issue.

What ever you do, do not lie! My, now husband and I have been flying back and forth for more than 7 years. I have always told the truth about the purpose of me entering into the US. As Italian you should be holder of a ESTA visa. You will have to apply for that at least 72 hours before you travel to the US as a tourist and the fee is $14 I think. However, this visa does not guarantee you access to the US. The immigration officer decides that. But again, and I can't say that enough, do not lie about why you are there. I have never done so, and have never had any problems. Sometimes they ask questions like, where did you meet, have you met in person before,.. or do you intend to marry, and do you have a return ticket, and they also sometimes ask to see it. Here is a link to information about the ESTA Visa Waiver Program. https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/visit/visa-waiver-program.html

The last time I entered to visit my husband was in January, 2 months into the 1R-1/CR-1 Visa process, and I had no problems. Just don't be terrified. You'll be fine. :) Good luck!!!

First if all, always tell immigrations the truth. Second, lots of people travel over to see boyfriends, wives, fiances etc. It's perfectly fine and legal. :) I traveled over four times a year for about four and a half years, never really had any issues. Just to be on the safe side, bring a letter from your employer, rental agreement/mortgage deed for your home etc, to show proof of ties to Italy.

Have a wonderful trip. :)

I have been travlling over there a few times to see mine. Last summer for 8 weeks. All I was asked was how long my stay was I answered 8 weeks and he just said that was a long vacation enjoy. He was so busy texting so he didn't pay attention.

Here the last time I was asked if it was vacation answered yes, then he asked if we were going to stay with an aunt or something then I answered No my boyfriend and then he just said great have a nice stay :) So be honest and everything will be fine :)

It is daunting to fly all that way alone in the hope of being reunited with your loved one and I still get a little nervous when the plane lands even after around 60 or so visits. It's not the money for the plane tickets or the hours spent uncomfortably in a plane that would bother me. Not being able to see my husband would destroy me.

That said, if you take a look around here you will find more success stories than refused entries. Especially for Europeans. I have made around 60 successful entries and never once been refused. And that's even with a husband there (spouses are often considered to be the most at risk of overstay).

Don't lie. Ever. About anything. That's the golden rule of immigration. They can tell when you're lying anyway - they do this all day, every day. Only answer the questions that are asked and don't volunteer extra information. If he doesn't ask your life story, don't give it.

My own personal experience is that they only ask two questions:

Why are you visiting the US?
When will you go back to Sweden?

And that's it. I tell them I'm visiting my bf and the date I'll be returning and they're happy with that. Go for it. :)

Just relax and stay calm. You will be fine. People visit their BF and GF all the time. If you act all nervous and anxious they will wonder why. You will draw more attention to yourself. You're not doing anything wrong. Have fun! Enjoy your visit!

Can confirm, you'll most likely be fine. On my one and only entry on the ESTA, the only questions were why I was visiting (to see my boyfriend) & how long I was going to stay (90 days). No problems, they take fingerprints & photo, stamp passport and waive you through.

We have a very long thread about this. Many visit, I did.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Back in the days when I used to fly out and visit my (now) husband I flew out 3 times in less than a year. The first time was for 2 weeks, the other two times were 90 day stints each. I was never really asked much except for the mundane questions "what is the purpose of your visit?" "what are your plans during your stay?". I think the first time I visited they asked who I would be staying with. I replied an old school friend. He was at the time. Nothing had been officially rekindled at that point. The immigration officer asked how I could be visiting an old school friend when I was from England, but visiting America. I explained my friend was also from England and we were childhood friends but that he moved to America when he was 15. All truthful, no lies. I never offered information, just gave the answers to questions asked.

They probably won't even blink and eye at your visit. Simply say you're visiting your bf no need for any further information. You have a return flight, maybe just take a document with a home address on it. People visit all the time. I did it month on month off for 1 year straight.
