NoMansLand2020 got a reaction from Allovertheworld in Manila lockdown again?
They aren't allowed to go to the stores, restaurants or anything like that. She tried to take them to SM mall a few days ago when she needed to withdraw cash from the ATM and was not allowed inside.

It's very hard for her to go anywhere alone because the kids are too young to be left alone and there isn't anyone who can watch them.

This entire thing is a mess and I don't know who is to blame. These lockdowns are pointless in my opinion. People under 15 or over 65 still not allowed to go outside. My fiancée's two young children.. 5 and 7 have only been outside of their apartment a few times in the past year. I can't imagine the psychological and other effects this is having on people.

NoMansLand2020 got a reaction from Carpe Vinum in College Degree in Philippines - Is it worth the expense and time?
Are you talking about anyone for Filipinos? It seems that in the US, a majority of people obtain a degree because they think they can get a job easier than those who haven't had any post high school education.

I had a lot of friends get what I would call a useless degree. History, English, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice.... And many more.

Most of these require a Graduate degree to be of any value and you generally end up being a Teacher or Professor. I don't think many of my friends use their degrees in their current positions.

I ended up with a Computer Science degree. I've spent the past 15 years working in IT. A majority of it being with the US Department of Defense. I hold a DoD Top Secret clearance and make very good money.

My Filipina fiancée put herself through school while being a single mother to two kids. She did not have a ton of money, and couldn't afford to get the degree she wanted. She ended up with a Bachelor's in Business Management and Finance.  When we get here over to the States, she wants to go back to school and get an education in the Medical field.

You replied to an 8 year old thread. If you weren't married, then you, as the mother have sole custody and no permission is needed.

So are they removing the mandatory 14 day quarantine now? I was able to enter alone to visit my spouse 2 times already alone with a visa no problem.

What has this changed that did not already change back in september?

It's dependent on a lot of factors. We received NOA2 last June. We still have not been able to schedule an interview and probably won't be able to until summer months or later.

I bet you won't get 50% of the population vaccinated. Recent polls show only 30% would accept it.

Can anyone fathom to guess when the Philippines will commence routine visa work again? It's been nearly a year since these services stopped.

The politics are the only thing I do not Love about the Philippines. Seems the country is always being run by corrupt and murderous politicians. Not saying other countries do not have issues. But the Philippines Govt has a ton of control over things they shouldn't.

What do you consider to be a significant percentage? A recent poll showed that roughly 30% of Filipinos would be willing to be vaccinated at this time. That number could obviously increase as well as decrease with time as vaccinations are delivered.

Moreover, is it going to be free for Filipino citizens? That could also very well affect who is vaccinated and who isn't.

It's a fool's game for the country to suggest that the country will open up more and resume routine activities when a large part of the population has received the vaccine. That could potentially never happen.

I have no idea. I didn't get involved in any of the suits because I thought they were more of a "sign this petition" deal and wouldn't get anywhere.

Such BS. Even if they started processing visas, with the backlog, you wouldn't get an appointment before Dec 2021. The MRV fee should be recognized indefinitely for those who filed during the pandemic. I paid for three people and with the exchange rate and fees, it was close to $850.

It doesn't matter. Some people might not be able to afford a flight. $700 for a ticket is a lot for someone who makes an equivalent of $10 USD per day.
