    1) They only need to be able to sponsor their own household size (counting the intending immigrant).
NOTE: The applicant's 3 friends has no role in the process. The applicant is the alien applying for the visa. They are both the visa applicant and petition's beneficiary. I think you mean petitioner.
NOTE 2: The 125% level is a minimum for consideration. Under = no visa. Over = judgement call. Focus more on what is practical to support all people in that sponsor's household, not the minimum income level.

    2) Is this the joint sponsor's child or the petitioner's child?
If it's the joint sponsor's child, then yes the child is counted in the joint sponsor's household size.
If it's the petitioner's child, then they would not be included in the joint sponsor's household size.

    3) They must submit at least the most recent year's tax transcript. The other 2 years are optional.
This is separate from showing evidence of current income. Unless self-employed (where tax return = current income), they also need to provide evidence of their current income, such as pay stubs.

Why not just marry in Ghana, and go the CR-1 route?
Every couple has their own priorities, and each couple must decide which visa is better for their situation.
    K-1
        Faster arrival in the US
        More expensive than CR-1
Requires Adjustment of Status after marriage (expensive and requires a lot of paperwork)
Spouse can not leave the US until she/he receives approved Advance Parole (approx 5-6 months)
Spouse can not work until she/he receives EAD (approx 5-6 months)
Some people have had problems with driver licenses, Social Security cards, leases, bank account during this period
Spouse will not receive Green Card for many months after Adjustment of Status is filed.

    CR-1
        Slower arrival in the US
        Less expensive than K-1
        No Adjustment of Status(I-485, I-131, I-765) required.
Spouse can immediately travel outside the US
Spouse is authorized to work immediately upon arrival.
Spouse receives Social Security Card and Green Card within 2 or 3 weeks after entering the US
Opening a bank account, getting a driver's license, etc. are very easily accomplished with GC, SS card, and passport.
Spouse has legal permanent Resident status IMMEDIATELY upon entry to US.

While this is correct, nearly all employers require the I-9 IRS documentation BEFORE starting work, so they'll need a Social Security Card to go along with the endorsed visa AND an employer who understands that's enough.  If the DS260 is properly completed AND the new immigrant fee is paid, both the Social Security Card and the Green Card should arrive by mail within a month.

So, being permitted to work is one thing.  Having the necessary documentation for the required I-9 form to START work is another matter altogether.

For example, the law says a K-1 visa holder has authorization to work during their first 90 days but there is no possible way for them satisfy the I-9 requirements in order to actually work.

Guidelines are simply guidelines.  The CO looks at the totality of the circumstances when evaluating the chance of an immigrant becoming a public charge.  If they are requesting a joint sponsor, you have no choice but to get one.

Karim2018 reacted to geowrian in Visa Denied!
100% agree with the above - those are only a bare minimum to even be considered. Totality of the circumstances is what matters. $54k for a family of 4 (with 2 kids) where I live and with my circumstances is livable IMO, whereas it's impractical to live on that in some areas or with certain circumstances.

Either way, next step is to get a joint sponsor.
