I had my interview at the US embassy for Cr1 case. They approved me verbally but did not give me any paper. Then few days later I got an email my passport was sent back to me and another email stating to the form DS5535. When I picked up my passport it said I am in administrative processing. My Ceac status says refused and have already emailed the form back to them. What is the timeline for this background check? Why did they approve and then changed their mind?

They didn't really approve your case.  Approvals are always after the interview and ALL administrative processing is done and the status changes to "Issued".  Sadly, there is no way to predict how long the AP will take.  It is not uncommon for MENA case to take several months,,,or more.  Hopefully, your checks will be completed soon.  You have your passport, correct?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

No.  Administrative Processing cannot be waived or expedited......just have to be patient for a while longer.  Good luck.

I am not sure why they do not make it clear that you passed their bit

When they provide a verbal approval at the interview, it is only in regards to the I-130, I-864, DS-260 and all supporting documents.  They do not run a background check until after the interview (in order to save time and resources - the background check is wasted effort if the person is denied at the interview).

Unfortunately for Pakistan and MENA countries the AP can take weeks to months to a year or more.

No way of knowing but assuming nothing weird can not imagine it takes that long to check an Abu Dhabi citizen.

Ds 5535 is black hole, can take months or even years for them to decide, unfortunately  most muslim and asian citizens  have  to go through this, there is nothing you can do to speed up  the process .all you  can do   is just wait it out and hope for the best inshaALLAH.

The answers will be the same as you got on the recent post you made on same topic:  AP can last days, months or years.  You cannot expedite or waive any part of the process.
