Does this mean I then STILL can't get a driver's license, open a bank account or apply for a credit card?

Ughh... this process is sooooo hurdley ever step of the way.

It means you cannot use it for work without having work authorization.   You CAN use it for any other purpose

YMMV

I did. Why do you think I’m asking here if it explains it on there?

That grammar needs to be corrected. Needs to say “Only valid for work with DHS authorization”

That's why you were asked to read those words again, the card does not say "only valid for work", because a SSN can be used for other things too. "Only valid for work with DHS authorization" means you can only use your SSN for work once you're authorized to do so (meaning you have a valid work permit or green card).

"valid for work only with DHS authorization"........An EAD or a Green card is DHS authorization.

Ahhh gotcha. BUT “Only valid for work with employment authorization” is a whole sentence. Meaning That it goes together with an EAD”. It if it is written that way it it does not mean it is ONLY for work. I am a Communications professional. I may be from another country but I also know proper grammar.

I don't think anyone is telling you that you have to use it for anything else.  If you don't want a driver's license or bank account or credit card then don't use it.

I'm so old that I had a card that said it is not to be used as id and that my number was also my driver's license number.

The restriction of your SSN applies to work only, as it states. That is the only restriction your SSN has.

The sentence is accurate and clear in that regard.
