Outside of the US for 8 years while on a 2 year conditional Green Card

It's been so long! We didn't keep in touch, but we ended our relationship in very good terms. What are the odds of getting a GC through the Diversity Visa? I know it's a lottery, but have you heard of people actually getting one? I guess it is worth to try anyways.

Call 1-800-898-7180 and put your A# (or USCIS number) in using the automated system..

That will tell you if there was a judgement and final order of removal (and thus termination of your status) made against you in abstentia.

Just called and enter the A# number and got a message saying that it doesn't match with the records or the case hasn't been filed yet. What does that mean?

And of the 50k lucky people, only 7% of the visas can go to any geographical region.  

 

You mentioned Argentina.  Total applicants per year is 20 million but number of applicants from Argentina winning in diversity lottery last year: 30

Chance of winning a diversity lottery from your region is currently at less than 1% of all Latin America applicants.

 

Do apply if you want, but don't plan your life under the assumption it will happen.

Wow! That's very little chance, I will apply though. The fact that my alien number is not even in the system, does it mean they closed the case? I was expecting a different kind of message when I called  1-800-898-7180

I'm thinking it might mean that your alien number is currently invalid (since you no longer have any legal status in the US).

I've heard that the Visa Lottery is something the government is looking to abandon, due to little to no vetting of winners.  Just something I heard.  But for now, it's still on. The OP may have to find another fiancee however since he left while in status would be the only thing going for him.  No law in abandoning your GC when you leave, but there would, I assume added scrutiny in a new K1 of CR1.

They are vetted for national security concerns (and other inadmissibilities) the same as anybody else.

The question of whether the DV makes sense right now is another issue entirely, but security-wise, public charge wise, etc., they go through the same process as anybody else.
