Why apply for I-765 and I-131? It looks like they take as long as Adjustment of Status Timeline

It looks like it takes 138 days to interview for Adjustment of Status in my area. It looks like the request for travel and work take at least that long. So, I don't understand why the point of applying for them is.

Like above, applying for these is free with the I-485, and exactly, timelines are estimates. Generally could have the EAD/AP combo in 4-6 months, but the interview might not be for 10-13 months.

They’re free if filed with (or after) the i485, so even if it takes as long as AOS you have nothing to lose, and in the event that AOS takes longer (estimates are not guaranteed), there would be a work and travel document Incase something arose.

It doesn’t make sense to not apply for them.

Just the fact that their is free is good, but to me the fact that it makes some employee that processes EAD/AP have to suffer a little more with another application to process, makes me warm and fuzzy all over. I know the suffering on my side is extreme, so a chance to return the favor should not be missed. And another thing, you wouldn't want them to have to lay off anyone for lack of work! ( Serious sarcasm implied)

Averages are averages; you don't know if your specific case will run into unexpected delays.

Also note that for most field offices, VJ averages are based on a fairly small sample size.

But basically it doesn't hurt anything to apply, and doesn't cost anything extra other than the cost of getting an extra 4 passport-style photos printed.

There is an active thread in the AOS Progress forum where someone is asking about having to find out the particulars of emergency I-131 processing, due to a family emergency at her home country. Hard to say if having the AP app already in process  would help her. However, having to scramble around, find out the process and fill out that app, etc... I would suppose that she has her mind on something else more important than filling out an AP application at this emergent time. I hope that it all works out for her.

File your AOS/EAD/AP concurrently, avoid the fees, and avoid the possible rush.;)

It's free to apply so you might as well - can't be sure no delays will happen with the i-485. My husband got his EAD and AP in September 2018 and just barely got his interview scheduled for next month...July 2019.

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered "Man.... Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."
