If you want to guarantee a stamp, when you cross into Mexico say you are traveling farther into Mexico, or that you are staying more than 3 days, and that requires the Visa or entry stamp be placed in the passport.

Only say that if it is true, obviously.

I've crossed into Mexico many times, if your walking across, you will more than likely get a stamp as long as you use the passport book, not the card. He should for sure get a stamp into Mexico, and when coming back just ask the CBP to please stamp my passport, they will usually do it no questions asked, just say you need a record of return for work or even for immigration reasons.

If you want to guarantee a stamp, when you cross into Mexico say you are traveling farther into Mexico, or that you are staying more than 3 days, and that requires the Visa or entry stamp be placed in the passport.

The last time I crossed into Mexico we drove from El Paso to Chihuahua City and I stayed for almost two weeks. No one was at the border to stamp my passport and on return  they just looked at my passport and asked if I was an American citizen. No stamps. When I went to Mexico City and flew I of course went through immigration, got a stamp, and the visa, but no exit stamp.

I live on the border and cross all the time. I get dental work done there regularly. I've never been asked to show my passport to Mexican border officials, let alone get a stamp. At the least they wave you through, at the most they ask you to pop your trunk before waving you through. The only time my passport has been stamped by Mexico is when flying from Mexican border city airport to interior Mexican cities, as part of the FMM process. And never have I had an exit stamp as border officials have been hard to find when exiting Mexico.

All that being said, I suppose you could ask for a stamp from Mexican border officials.

She says that she can find the co-sponsor? So, she knows someone already in the USA well enough that he or she is willing to

enter into a contract with the government to guarantee that she won’t become a public charge? Sounds like the co-sponsor is the real reason she’s coming here but for some reason he’s not eligible to petition for her (or the process would take too long - sibling? Parent?) and our 72-year-old casual drinker is just the means to the end.

Proceed with caution, old boy.

She says it's a distant relative of hers (uncle?) who cannot sponsor her directly but agreed to be a co-sponsor if necessary. She also says that she did visit the US (San Diego) as a tourist in the past <?> but it was long time ago, and after that tried to get new tourist visas, was denied.

Sounds like marriage is just a means to achieve a goal of immigration.........definition of fraud.

How can he be madly in love with her? He's never even met her!  If you care about your friend at all, tell him he needs to slow down. Way down.

I was madly in love with my husband BEFORE I met him in person. He, too - with me. We already knew we wanted to marry each other BEFORE me met in person but decided to wait - to make sure. He formally proposed on day 8th of my visit, and it was natural for me to accept. We got married on the second visit. If it was possible, we could have done it on the first.

Each love story is different.

It is perplexing that at his age he wouldn't already know this!  To the OP, just have to ask....do you really want to be mixed up in what sounds like it could very well be a green card scam?

My friend is an old school romantic, what's wrong with that?

What do you mean by "mixing up"? I am not part of their love story. He is just sharing with me the progress, and I do NOT interfere in any form.

If it is a green card scam, it's on her part, not his.

May well be a scam. But may be not. Time will tell.

@portorusa: you have been through the immigration process as well (I assume). And you also must have been so frustrated at times that the process is so long and full of scrutiny.

Because valuable time and resources of  USCIS, NVC and Embassies are being spent on cases where the only goal is the Immigration itself, other people have to wait so long and be away from their partners, family and other loved ones.

How can you seem to be okay with this situation that seems highly fraudulent to say the least? I honesty don't understand.. Why on earth would you even consider trying to help them gather evidence for a K1 petition in the current situation? Please help me understand.. 😰

How old is her “little child”? At 72 years old does he really want to be raising a toddler? How does he feel about coping with a teenager when he’s almost 90? If his income is so modest that he needs a co-sponsor, how does he plan to feed and clothe two extra people? What about healthcare for them? It’s going to be very stressful and that’s the last thing a person of his age needs.

She has a 5 y.o. daughter and my friend says the child is adorable. He talked on the skype with the little girl many times.

There is a big dog also who is a part of the package. My friend is a dog lover, and does not mind.

I agree, that it may be stressful, for both sides. Immigration is stressful for everyone.

I am curious who the baby daddy is, and is there any correlation to the mystery co- sponsor

The baby's father is Mexican. He lives in the same place (Tijuana), visits them often. In fact, he pays their rental apartment (Mom and daugher's).

Folks, let's avoid lecturing the OP.  His friend's case is his friend's case, and the friend will incorporate any cautions that the OP considers appropriate to relate.

OP, if your questions have been answered and you wish for this thread to be closed (= 100% your decision), hit the "report post" button and so request.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Distant relative wants to sponsor her but can't.

Met 40 year older USC.

USC is willing to meet her for drinks and photos for one day so he can petition her.

Relative is willing to be on the hook for her financially since the USC can't do so on his own.

Step back for a moment and realize how this looks to somebody not intimately familiar with their full relationship.

It is advisable for your friend to take the time to do it right. Meet more than once and for more than just a day. Get to know her child personally (especially if she intends for her to immigrate as well, and the father lets her immigrate).

Let him know all these items need to be addressed before starting the petitioning process.

You can lead a horse to water but not make it drink. I hope you are able to get him to the water...from then on it's on him to take care of himself.

I don't think she is in it for the money, but as stated before, in it for the GC to be honest... Gold diggers come in different sizes and shapes..

Please do not get involved in this..

If they both really are in love and meeting in a bar seems to be the only way for them to meet, than why don't they keep doing that for the next year or so? That will accumulate some proof of meeting/some sort of a relationship automatically! Win-win I say

Thanks for the advice. I do NOT get involved in this. I just provide my friend with information when he needs it.

As to them continuing to "date", it's not really practical. She lives in Tijuana, he in Arizona (look at the map), it's quite a distance.  She is willing to drive all the way to Nogales to meet him, and he appreciates this.

I don't think they both can afford traveling back and forth a lot.

Also, when you are at his age, an idea of a long-distance dating seems ridiculous. How much years are there left to enjoy life, who knows?
