We had a Canadian that worked alongside us when I was working for Caltech in California. He was really big into curling and explained it for us. I don't know why he kept getting mad when we were questioning why it was a Olympic sport.

Yeah but watching the Japanese and Korean curling teams is GREAT and I was watching them for a couple hours during the Olympics. That was until I got fed up by all the commercials on NBC.

Redneck bought me a boxer puppy for my birthday, I have been telling him for months that a puppy is a bad idea right now as we are really not home enough *sigh*

She's very cute & redneck is obsessed with her 😂

Oscar is incredibly tolerant of her climbing over him, chewing him and generally being a puppy 😁

I'm trying to find a puppy socialisation/training class, it's harder than I expected!

Adoption didn't go through today. Judge was kind of a jerk. Apparently there is an issue because the final hearing couldn't be scheduled within 90 days - and that is because he took 60 days to sign the order requesting the background check. So, of course the background check isn't done yet.  He might make us refile the whole thing.  🙄

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

Speaking of background checks... a colleague at work sort of disappeared right before Christmas. He told our boss that it was a family emergency. Three weeks later the big boss told us he was cut loose. He kept everyone in the dark during his absence. Since that time I've heard that the real issue was that he was arrested for something serious. A casual internet search not only found he'd been arrested and booked into jail around Thanksgiving (subsequently released and returned to work for a few weeks), but also that he'd been arrested back in 2014 for "assault on a household member". Couldn't find the resolution of that charge... dropped? convicted? etc.

 

Anyway, just wondering how often this stuff falls through the cracks on employment background checks. The thing is, even after he was hired at my place of employment many years ago, he transferred a couple of times and presumably checks were done after each transfer. And then a final thought is that once you've been hired into an organization, do any HR departments do regular checks to catch if someone might have had a DUI or domestic violence charge without anyone at work hearing about it?

 

A co-worker and I were talking about it over beers, and concluded that we never truly know anyone.

There are niche businesses that service this area. Vetting applicants...

These companies offer a lot more. 

It depends if an employer is willing to pay for this...

 

I know the owners of the biggest one of these companies...

I actually looked Mr Lobster up on the repository before I started dating him. He had a looooong list of violations, all traffic-related. 😂

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The Dane and I are both squeaky clean, minus that speeding ticket from my teen years that got erased from my record.  Squeaky, so squeaky.
