Hey!

My fiancé and I got our marriage license a couple of days ago. I don't have an American social security number yet, since I just moved here.

I just noticed that on our marriage license my social security number is put in "the American way" . I was wondering if that's gonna create any trouble? I mean they can't look me up through that number because it's not mine. It may not even exist.

Thank you in advance

Go back and make sure that number is not from someone else. Weird. When we requested our license years ago they left that part blank since I did not have one at that time.

I would think they should have left that blank because you don't have one yet. I would definitely check that out, more than once " The American Way" has ended up with someone serving a prison term.

The American social security number is split at different numbers with a "-" than the Danish one

So you gave them your danish social security number????

go and get a new license before things get complicated. You don’t have a social security number in U.S. it should have been left blank.

If you do not have a US social security number then that part needs to be blank.  They do not need your Danish social number. It's 2 different things. To get your US social sec # you need to go to your local SSA office and fill out a form, etc and they will mail you a social security card with your number that will be with you all your life.

Have this corrected. Get a new license with your number left blank. In the meantime, go and get your U.S. ss#. It’s easy to do and the sooner, the better.

I went to the County Clerk yesterday to have it corrected but she told my fiancé and I that it doesn't matter. I asked twice, same response.

We also noticed 2 other mistakes on their (wrong name spelling) but that didn't seem to matter too much either?

I went to the county clerk to have it left blank but she told me it didn't matter? As long as it was my Danish social security number (is what I believe she said).

The clerk is WRONG.

It absolutely does matter. If your names are spelled wrong then you won't be able to get your social security card. You need to press her and make her fix it. If she won't, go to another office.

Yeah it does sound a bit weird that it wouldn't matter. I believe she said that when I did get my social security number I was supposed to go back there and change it. I don't know if that changes anything?

Though it's not our names that are spelled wrong. My fiancé's dad's last name is missing a letter which she said just wasn't on the print but it was online? And my mom's last name is spelled wrong because they don't have the letter in their alphabet (ø), so she just wrote "o".

The whole situation sounds a bit off to me. Have you had a chance to look at the online registration (if there is one)? I suppose it may not be as big of a deal if it's not either of your names spelled wrong. The woman sounds inept to me. Sigh. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.
