My husband and I are planning to move to another state as I'm starting a new career and he's looking for a place with  better job prospects. Do you think it's best if we move before the EAD arrives or after the EAD arrives? I don't want to slow down the process too much but we are living in the city with literally the slowest AOS Processing Office in the country.

I received three of the below emails.  Each with different receipt numbers.  My bank still hasn't posted a withdrawal.  My guess is that they will do the EFT at National Benefits Center?  Now I am worried that they haven't cashed my check!!!!  Ugh

Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number MSC**********. Calm down girl. lol
I doubt you get Receipts without the cash clearing
Something is just odd with your bank. lol
So it's all good! Getting that notification is what's important!

Well, EAD and AP are talking anywhere from 4 to 6 months....there are cases where they take way much longer.....If you are planning to move and your husband already have a job opportunity in the new location I would not mind, just update your address with USCIS and go from there. Now if you are the beneficiary and rely on EAD to work, I would think twice cause you wont be able to work anyways....make sense?

Also, how have you guys gotten SSN already? My lawyer said that you have to have an EAD in order  to get a SSN and directed me to this website: https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm which also stated that. Is it different by state?

Would it mean that we have to start the waiting process over again in another state? Honestly that might be okay because Saint Paul's average is 400 days to GC.

I work in finance and my boss would actually allow me to work virtually therefore we have some flexibility in when we would move. I'd prefer to wait until after we have an EAD but I wouldn't want to severely delay the process if the AOS had to get transferred to another state.

No, that only means that they would update your address. Your EAD/AP is already being processed, address change should not delay or speed up the process.

Not true in Wisconsin. I took my i-94 and passport and got my SSN requested. The general advice is that you wait two to three weeks after US arrival so that the beneficiary info is updated in SSN systems.

Not true anywhere

U can get SSN as long as there's still at least 30 days left on your I-94

Some people are getting SSN like the day after they enter- but many are having issues if they go in too early since your status might have to be manually verified with DHS which stalls you additional 6 weeks.
If you go to SS office like 3 weeks after arrival, with passport and I-94, you should get SSN

How quickly you get it to your home might depend on the office

I was one of those idiots that went in too early.  They sent it for manual verification. SAVE has since sent it back to SSA but I am on week 2 and no card. :(
