We also bring back products from Nica when we go down there that we can't find in Bismarck. I have also just mastered the art of making Nicaraguan-style tortillas so I can check off one thing on my growing list of Central American food I need to learn how to make.

If you mean it here it is: Maseca corn flour, salt, and water.  Ratio of about 1:1 with flour and water. between 1/4 teaspoon for each 1 cup of flour. Add flour little at a time if it sticks to your hands too easily or too much. med-hi to mostly high heat on the stove. My secret is using plastic bags from grocery stores when I press them out as they still stuck to parchment paper. Nica tortillas are thicker so I never have to worry if they aren't thin enough like you would see in stores. Then I put them on the heat. after a couple of times of flipping them I press them down until parts in the middle start to rise. Then I know its done.

Enjoy with a chunk of guajada cheese, gallo pinto and some juevos! Maybe some fried plantain strips (tajadas) if you want some crunch!

Tell her she can find both Dairy Milk Chocolate, Hobnobs and PG Tips in the supermarket.

I lived in the U.K. for about six years and it's such a great country. I feel from British than Swedish. 😃 I buy most of my British food, tea and candy on www.englishteastore.com.

If you want to surprise her and make her feel at home, maybe buy her some things from there. :) And remember tea and biscuit time around 3 pm. 😊

Not sure where you are in Brooklyn, but Java Joe in Park Slope (7th ave / 8th st) sells PROPER cadburys and other UK chocolate and biscuits. There are of course plenty of other places in the city that sell it, and some websites.

She may well be excited to see US cadburys in CVS/wherever, but trust me, it is NOT the same. And for gods sake, steer clear of the US cadburys creme eggs...

Oh, and good luck finding proper bacon here...

CR1 / DCF (London): 2012 / 2013 (4 months from I-130 petition to visa in hand)

I-751 #1- April 2015 [Denied]

April 2015 : I-751 Joint filing package sent fedex next day 09:00am from UK ($lots - thanks).
Jan 2017: Notification that an interview has been scheduled at a local office. Bizarrely still no RFE...
Jan 2017: 2hr wait, then interview terminated before it began, due to moving my ID to another state 2 wks prior. New interview 'in a few months...maybe.'   Informed them that divorce proceedings are underway, but not finalised at this time.
March 2017: An Interview was scheduled - marked as no-show as they didn't actually send out a notification of interview. FML
April  2017: Filed an official complaint with the ombudsman, and have requested Senator & Congressman assistance
August 2017: Interview - switched to a (finalised) divorce waiver. Told that decision will be made that afternoon, but no problems foreseen with my case.
October 2017: Letter of Denial received - reason given as 'I-751 petition was not properly filed'. Discovered ex-spouse made false allegations to USCIS in 2015. No opportunity given to review & refute allegations  - contrary to USCIS policy.

I-751 #2 - Oct 2017 - Mar 2021[Denied]

October 2017: Within 72hrs of receiving denial notice, a new waiver I-751, divorce decree & $680 cheque, sent to Vermont via FedEx overnight 9am priority.
Dec 2019: Filed FOIA request for full A# file
Feb 2020: FOIA request completed - entire A# file received as a .PDF; 197 pages fully redacted, and 80 partially redacted. Don't waste your time!
March 2021: I-751 #2 denied for lack of evidence. No RFE, no interview, and evidence in previous I-751 not reviewed - contrary to policy. Huge errors in adjudication.

N-400 - Feb 2018 - Apr 2021 [Denied]

February 2018: N-400 filed online.  $725 paid to the USCIS paperwork wastage fund

February  2019: Interview - cancelled after a four hour wait due to 'missing paperwork' on their end. Promised Expedited reschedule.

March 2021: Interview letter received, strangely dated after I-751 denial. No I-751 interview conducted. N-400 interview and test passed, given 'cannot make a decision at this time' paper due to the ongoing I-751 nightmare...

April 2021: N-400 denial received citing recent I-751 denial as basis for ineligibility, even though it should have been a combo interview 🤯

I AM JACK'S COMPLETE LACK OF SURPRISE

Service Motion - March 2021 [Sent via FedEx & COMPLETELY IGNORED by USCIS]

March 2021: Service Motion request sent overnight addressed direectly to field office director, requesting urgent review and re-opening, based on errors in adjudication - citing USCIS policy, AFM and memorandums as basis for errors. This was completely ignored by USCIS.

 I-751 #3 - June 2021 - Jan 2024 [Denied]

IT'S GROUNDHOG DAY

June 2021: I-751 #3 (30+lbs/5000 pages of paperwork) & another $680 sent to USCIS via FedEx ($300+..thanks) ....

June 2021: Receipt issued, card charged, biometrics waived, infopass scheduled for I-551 stamp number ten.....

Feb 2022: RFIE (no, not an RFE, a Request For Initial Evidence) received, for copies of the divorce paperwork that they already have 😑

July 2022: Infopass for I-551 stamp number eleven.....

August 2023: Infopass for I-551 stamp number twelve....

January 2024: Denial received, ignoring the overwhelming majority of the filing, abundance of evidence, and refutation of a provably false allegation. The denial also contradicts itself in multiple places, as if it was written by someone with an IQ <50.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

2024: FML. Seriously. I'm done.

Well after 5 moths of being here (and 4 months of marriage), my foreign fiancé-now-husband is adjusting well to the country. He attends English classes(Free) and got his drivers license. I had him make a "Meetup.com" account so he can start getting out regularly to meet native speakers and practice English. We went skiing a few times and still trying to find  social circles where he feels comfortable. I'm noticing he likes to hang out with other native Russian-speakers (his native tongue) but the English classes have improved his English tremendously so he can converse a lot more with Americans.

It's all about the little (and big things).   :-)

My gorgeous husband spent the last two weeks in my country with me and my family, spent two days in Paris then flew together to the US.

We me lost space, bought clothes containers/drawers, took possession of precious space and drawers in the bathroom, got a charging station on my side of the bed...

I was a given a brand new MacBook Pro, we quickly went to AT&T to get me a 415 phone number.

Referring me to a good doctor, a dentist, a barber (we share the same people).

Sharing all the bank stuff (transferring funds form BE to the US) and having my name added (though this takes a little while because of the SSN and GC being requested by the bank).

Sharing access to a bunch of things and just being a team rather than 2 individuals, while keeping our space and time when it's needed.

I couldn't feel better "at home". We're still waiting on some shipped stuff that needs to arrive here and then it'll be complete.

The next step will be finding our next place together, but so far I couldn't be happier about how smoothly things are going. Communication is key!

My husband (the USC) added me to his bank account and gave me a card to that account instead on his own accord, made me really feel like it was "us" and not just "you" and "me". Pocket money like what you described wouldn't have worked at all for me. That would've made me feel excluded and like "oh so I only get some pocket money and you don't trust me to share your account with me?". Glad we all think and feel differently.

My hubby works from home and can choose when to work as he's his own boss, so there were many things we could do because of that. Some of the things he did for me (and still does):

-First off, he went to Sweden just to "pick me up and bring me home" once I was ready to move, I LOVED not having to travel alone that time. I could also fill his checkin bags with my stuff so it was perfect. ♡

-Many roadtrips so I got to see and got to know the area

-Went to museums

-Went to all kinds of restaurants so I could find my own personal favorites where he now takes me at least twice a month

-Bought me a huge TV (he never watches tv so he never had one before)

-Let me buy a whole bunch of things for the house to make me feel more at home

-Let me re-arrange furniture in the house the way I wanted them

-Took me to the Scandinavian shops in the area so I could get food and candy I was missing from home

-Went to baseball games (So much fun!)

-Sea World and the zoo of course (we were living in San Diego at the time so it was close by)

-Bought me all kinds of different brands of deodorant, schampoo, conditioner etc so I could try them and find my favorites, so cute!

-Helped me making phone calls when I didn't feel brave enough

-Drove me everywhere I wanted/needed to go

-Helped me find info about all kinds of things (how to get a SSN, state ID, new passport, and everything that comes along with this process)

-Took me to parks around SD and LA (I wasn't used to living in a big city, the parks and nature in general helped a lot)

-Took me to a dog rescue where we adopted the cutest dog together

-Helped me lose a sh*itload of weight, so grateful since I didn't have the discipline to do it on my own. ♡

-Got me little gifts he knew I missed from home (doing jigsaw puzzles for instance, major stress-reliever for me)

-Talked to my parents on Skype together with me at least once a week, he knows how important the relationship I have with my parents is and he wants to be part of that for my sake, he knows it makes me happy

-Just over-all support regarding everything really, it's so amazing to have someone who helps and backs you up no matter what. I never felt alone for a second despite missing my family back home.

There are just so many things, he has been amazing. It's not just a difficult transition for the foreigner but also for the USC sometimes, he has done really well and I'm very, very proud of him. Thanks to him I haven't regretted my decision to leave my home country and my family for one second.

Awww this is so sweet! Your husband seems like a very considerate man! You're a lucky gal. I'm wondering how bad the home sickness is going to be for me! I can be really emotional at times which my fiance knows so I hope he's ready to deal with that when the time comes haha. I do like the Idea of a shared/ joint account especially for when I'm done with school and land a job and start making my own way. Funny though we never discussed that yet so maybe I will bring it up when we have a phone call tonight 😅 anyways seems like you are loving your new American life and I wish you the best! I hope to be there too right before this year is up! Xoxo

A joint account is great evidence for your immigration journey to show you commingle your finances.

Note, I think I am the first person to mention "pocket money" which Scandi rejected as offensive. It was a joint account and I had my own debit card. The point was she would get double the amount of cash she needed and say "I got US some cash today" and hand $100 to me. It wasn't an allowance that had to last a certain amount of time. It was just the favor of picking up enough so we both had some cash for small things we didn't want to put on the credit card. In the early weeks, I may have felt odd asking for cash since I didn't bring a penny from the UK.

Yeah exactly! Hopefully I'd have some sort of money of my own at that point to have with me when I arrive to the States cause I'm a really independant person and never liked the thought of having to ask for money though my fiance always makes sure I have everything I need & I'm sure I wouldn't have to ask for anything. I do look forward to starting school and landing my first job afterwards though! Hehe
