Yeah but i am lil bit confuse about international travel ?? Did u travel with this extension letter ( international )

Yes, I did. All you need is the expired green card and the letter (and passport, obviously). Show it at the airport and that's it. You don't need the stamp if you have the letter and physical green card.

Stamp is important in extension letter . I am stuck in india due to covid19 . My gc is expired.

What are you talking about?...

There are 2 ways to travel during ROC:

1. Expired green card + Extension Letter

2. I-551 stamp in the passport (sometimes in one's I-94) once Extension Letter gets expired.

I mentioned I-551 stamp in the comment you've quoted   - my Extension Letter got expired, so the stamp was needed to travel.

Curious, does the extension letter grant entry privileges into countries that let in green card holder where otherwise they would need visa ?

It’s unlikely. Especially now...

Yes.  I've been traveling with my extension letter under these circumstances for a while with no issues.

That's what "travel" means, international travel. The entire thread is literally about the fact that you CAN travel with the expired green card and letter.

Some "visa required" countries prefer  to see an actual "plastic' green card and don't want to deal a 'combo' of expired green card+Ext.Letter.

I'd, probably, email to an Embassy of the country you are planning to visit. To get the Info from "first hands". Or make  a phone call.

Good luck!

I knew you would figure that out :) :)

No, not really. There are some from Ukraine around here, but from Kyiv -  just us, my son and I .

Hope you'll get the answer soon enough - it might take some time ...

I needed something from Ukraine Embassy, so I emailed. And it took them quit awhile to answer.

The first email was not helpful at all, - was something about quarantine and blah-blah..  But couple weeks after (I've already taken care of the issues and forgotten I've actually emailed them, lol)  i received another one - very detailed and could've been really helpful If I still needed their assistance.

Yes. Only delay is in Country with English not a first language, they needed someone to read it for them.

  • 2 months later...

Hello everyone,
I have extension letter for 18 months that I have been traveling with no problems.
Now I recieved my I-751 approval letter that says:
`You should not travel outside the United States until you recieve your new Green Card, as you may have difficulty reentering the United States. If en emergency arises......., you may make an appointment at your local USCIS ro request I-551 stamp.`

I have to travel to my home country at the end of the month. USCIS paused GC printing, I don't think I will be able to recieve my new GC by then.
Do I still need I-551 even though I have extension letter and old card?
