I'm not talking about just immigrants, I'm talking about anyone with a working brain who didn't just put one of the most unqualified candidates ever into the white house. I'm not an immigrant, I'm a white woman who was born in America. Donald Trump is a disgusting man who's been putting an even more disgusting transition team together. Most of us DID NOT want this. Hillary won the popular vote by a long shot and the 3rd party candidates got alot of votes as well. Most of America is very unhappy with this right now, as they should be, and as they're allowed to be. I'm disgusted at what we've just done to ourselves.

The you can be presumed to be "one" and not specifically directed at you personally.

If you take a look at the actual vote totals and consider people who voted for smaller parties who might have otherwise voted Republican (myself included in this number), I'm not entirely sure you can claim a majority. A majority just plainly looking at the count and considering every candidate separately, but let's say hypothetically that you add most of the Johnson, Castle, and McMullin candidates in and it is looking very very close as to how the country as a whole is feeling.

Party Home state Popular vote Electoral

vote Running mate Count Pct Vice-presidential candidate Home state Elect. vote Donald Trump Republican New York 62,219,232[2]46.43% 306 Mike Pence Indiana 306 Hillary Clinton Democratic New York 64,163,205[2]47.88% 232 Tim Kaine Virginia 232 Gary Johnson Libertarian New Mexico 4,402,388[2]3.28% 0 William Weld Massachusetts 0 Jill Stein Green Massachusetts 1,384,195[2]1.03% 0 Ajamu Baraka Illinois 0 Evan McMullin Independent Utah 558,677[2]0.42% 0 Mindy Finn District of Columbia 0 Darrell Castle Constitution Tennessee 192,310[2]0.14% 0 Scott Bradley Utah 0 Other

And let's say you go further and compare that to the 2012 election, it would be hard to argue that America has suddenly become much more racist in 4 years or something has dramatically changed.

The fact of the matter is that the Democratic party doesn't understand the needs of the people of this country anymore. As a Democratic representative that I campaigned for and voted to endorse said, the Democrats have become an urban party that doesn't understand rural communities, they've lost touch with the idea that rural voters want gun rights, etc. For goodness sake if it hadn't been for us Libertarian voters they might have even lost Minnesota, the only state that did this in 1984:

1984_large.png

Please, as someone who saw exactly what our state Democratic unit was doing wrong and was a delegate for Sanders, I implore you to realize it isn't that people are more hate filled and voting for Trump, it is that the core base of the DNC and in our case, the DFL, told the party that they were really out of touch, that we'd never vote for Clinton and they'd actively work to get super delegates who voted for her against their constituents will out of office and that is exactly what we are doing. I will actively work to get Frankel out based on his support for Clinton (and complete flippancy towards the party base) and I actively worked to get our Democratic representatives in office (they both won) based on them listening to the people.

Don't be angry at the country, be pissed at the DNC elites who don't care what you think and don't seem to care that their party is in a death spiral.

I can understand that interracial couples and people of color coming to live in the US, especially if it's a more rural Trump-prone area, might feel nervous. It's only human to feel that given the anger and craziness seen in the news everyday. But don't stoop to their level of hate. Retain your sanity and have some hope...individual Americans are not the government. Trump isn't in office yet. The Senate is up from grabs again in two years, come 2018, when the next midterm election cycle rolls around.

I think you'll be much happier in an urban environment. Yes, it costs more but you'll just have a peace of mind that is priceless. I'm really sorry to hear that such hateful people where shouting stuff like that after the election...you've seen the worst of America it seems, now go find the best of it in a new place. America isn't all backwoods hayseeds, don't lose hope.

I'm also headed to an urban area in the US once our visa is done. My dad lives in an isolated bubble in FL and he doesn't get why I want to be in a big city, he constantly cites the taxes and cost as reasons. It's impossible for me to communicate to him that the higher cost comes with a sense of community I can't find in places where he lives. Life isn't just about a giant comfy house and fat stacks! The OTHER American dream is feeling like you belong somewhere and being happy.

This is quite funny.

As I understand it, in many large cities in USA is it the republicans who

are rioting, causing property damage etc.

The republicans are rioting and do not want to accept the results of an election held

according to constitutional rules and winner determined by constitutional rules.

Right wingers have vowed to protest against President Trump through his entire presidency and never give him a chance.

And if you will note on college campuses, it is the republican students who riot and protest

when a left wing speaker comes to campus.

The democratic students on the other hand come to right wing speeches and sit very quietly and listen.

Right wing protesters shoot policemen and yell out 'fry the pigs' to policemen.

I lived in a very large city on the west coast prior, and moved back to this town where my family is/I grew up at for personal reasons a few years ago. No problems since that day, and while people are mostly nice and quiet here, I'm also trying to move for decent wages and career growth....which is damn near impossible in such a teeny BFE town. I'll second you on your outlook, a sense of belonging is priceless.

Just a bit of education....the REPUBLICANS WON, they are the right wing (and alt-right, depending on who you ask)....why would they riot? I'm gonna guess you goofed your post, lol, and I'm going to encourage you to at least know the party difference before popping off about the subject.

I don't care who in what cities riot, I care about things going on in my small area only concerning this. Selfish as that may sound. Racists come in all shapes/sizes/voting parties and that is my ultimate avoidance goal.

I wonder though if making choices like that only further polarizes the country? We made an active choice to move somewhere that we knew we'd be a minority in. I'm almost sure that my town has more churches than people (the rate is more like 1:100), but it is a very Christian area. We aren't Christian and my daughter is ethnically Jewish. I think of it as a wonderful opportunity to expose them to non-Christians and for us at times to challenge our own stereotypes about conservative Christians.

My own upbringing was so wonderfully multicultural and multi-religious and I hope other people can get a little of that too.

Most small towns, at least in the South, suffer from low wages and minimal ability to move up in the career ladder. I think that is more of a driving force why people leave at least in my area regardless of religion.

I'm not an extreme liberal person like the kind who typically inhabits the Left Coast (where I'll be moving to.) And even in the lib paradise of a city where I'm headed (Portland), one of my best friends who is a Mormon currently lives there with her husband. My sister is also planning to move there and she's a traditional Catholic. So I think even inside the cities perceived to be super-left you can find people with different views who came from other parts of the US. But I definitely think it's great if people want to live in smaller towns/urban areas and help diversify them. I commend people like you and your family for doing so.

Smaller, less urbanized areas can be good or bad. Depends on the state, depends on the local economy there. For example, I'm from a medium-sized town in the Deep South/Bible Belt....the economy there is certainly severely lacking for people like me without mad math/science/medical/military skills. I have a background now in foreign language and it just doesn't make sense for me to live in a mostly "American" populated city, I need to be around other foreigners for my career. Sadly, it does polarize the country a bit by having the ethnically diverse places be in big cities, but that's not really just a problem in US. Canada has a similar divide, it's just less angry and gun-happy, heh. Also, my husband is a life-long resident of a big city (pop. 6 million) and I think he would go insane living in a smaller town!

Portland is an amazing city, IMO. We are heading to Seattle, and like you, I am not in a STEM/Military/Medical field.....the concept of never topping 9 an hour here where I live now is too much for me.

I've seen plenty of posts here from people who have used their I-485 NOA to indicate to CBP (at checkpoints) that they are currently in a period of authorised stay.

That being said, given the current climate, if an alien, legal or otherwise, can avoid these checkpoints then it would probably be an excellent idea to do so.

Avoid the internal CBP checkpoint south of Alpine, Texas, even if you're a born-and-bred U.S. citizen.
