My husband will be having his interview December 21, the last full weekend before Christmas. I went ahead and bought his ticket for the 25th i know that i should wait on till i get the visa, but it the tickets are very expensive from Jamaica $700+ after the 25th.

My question is can he show the CO officer at the kingston embassy his ticket (after he gets approved) and ask them if he can pick it up friday the 23rd, because DHL in jamaica will not be working the 26th or the 27th.

The instructions clearly state to not make arrangements such as quitting a job or purchasing a ticket until you have the visa

No the embassy will not expedite issuing his visa or allow him to pick up his visa using a procedure different than the standard procedure

Absolutely zero chance you'll be getting it back in time to make that flight.

When will people learn not to schedule flights until the visa is in hand?

Saying that, I hope you can manage to reschedule the flight for free/minimal cost as I know a lot of airlines are non-refundable or non-flexible.

Never ever buy a ticket before visa is in hand. That's the golden rule of VJ and there have been so many previous posts about it.

My husband's visa took 7 business days to get into his hands, that's with the embassy working fast. The Christmas holiday could cause it to take even longer. You basically gave them 2 days to prepare the visa and POE packet. Not going to work.

Anything could happen...AP, errors on the visa, DHL hold up.

It was 6 days after my husband passport was issued before he received it (including weekends) no matter how tempted I was to buy the tickets for us I waited until he had the passport in his hand and everything was correct. So many things could of gone wrong but thankfully everything was fine and we leave in 2 days.

My husbands visa was pretty much rushed at the time of interview because of a mistake made by the embassy. Even with it being rushed, it still took about 10 days to get the visa in hand. Sorry but to think you'd get the visa in that short of a time frame is ridiculous.

My visa took about 8 days from my interview until I received it. This is because I did my physical exam the day after the interview. On the day of my interview I was approved on the spot, but the officer told me they could not grant the visa until the medical results were back. They told me to take my passport with me after the interview because I would need it for the physical, and that I should bring it back on Tuesday (because that was apparently the only day they allow drop off's) I did my interview, and came back on Tuesday. At that point they told me the visa will be ready to pick up by Thursday (2 days later). So yes. it is possible to have it printed in 2 days (at least with the embassy in the Bahamas). We did not rush, I hadn't bought a ticket and the wedding wasn't planned for a few more weeks. They just had it printed in 2 days because that's all the time they needed from the time they had my passport in hand (if your SO gets approved on the spot typically they keep the passport and have the person return a few days later to pick it up with the visa).

All that said. If his visa is not ready in time you still might have options. I know delta allows you to change tickets free of charge if there is a delay in travel documents. I have had a family member in the past have to do this because his tourist visa was not ready in time for the flight. So the delta agents suspended his ticket and once he had the visa in hand they put him on the next flight free of charge. I am only familiar with delta but it is possible that other airlines have this option too so you should look into that just in case.

The visa are highly sophisticated eith advance security features on them. Two days is not enough time for him to get his visa. Especially when it right before Christmas.

You should not have bought the ticket yet. They tell you not to purchase any tickets until you have the actual visa in hand. It can take up to 2 weeks to get the visa.

Well idk about jamaica embassy. But mumbai embassy gives it on the same day or on second day. I got on the third day( i live far away from mumbai,India). All the very best.
