Definitely a minority.

Most people I know would never think of committing to marriage without meeting their future spouse prior to their wedding day.

This means you do not know enough people and nothing more. It matters not what "most people you know" would do.

It's too bad that anything good you might have to say gets immediately swept away with your condescending attitude.

I think it's great that you and other VJ members were able to marry people sight unseen and have it work out so far. But it's certainly not the norm, nor is it something that any rational person would advise someone else to do.

Marrying a foreign person is not the "norm" and many people would like to see the right to marry who we want to restricted.

Adults make decisions, I trust them to do so, you don't. Pretty simple. You think they should somehow be restricted to make decisions the way you make decisions, or your friends make decisions. Why? As long as they pay for their decisions, who cares? I do not care if people are scammed, swindled, tricked, lied to or taken advantage of. It is their inalienable right to be stupid! Heck there was a time I would have been happy to be scammed by smoking hot Ukrainian women...I probably was a few times.  I am guessing all those 24 year old hotties that let me buy them dinner and take them dancing were not really interested in much else than rewarding me for a good time with hot sex...worked for me. :D But I didn't bring them home.

One look at Alla, and I mean ONE LOOK, and all that was over. Well, not the hot sex part, just the one night stand part. :P I need to stop talking now.

To our newer friends in this thread:

Everyone who's been on VJ for 5 minutes knows to listen to pushbrk. If you let your feelings get hurt by straight talk, you'll miss out on very important stuff.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Could you possibly build a weaker strawman? No matter how you slice it, marrying someone sight unseen is not the norm.

Nothing I have said in this thread even hints at the claims you are making. You are way off base.

Self professed knowledge is no excuse for bad manners.

It's really not a good idea to get immigration advice through private message. It's discouraged in most communities because of the level of error involved. It's far better to hash out questions in an open forum, where bad advice can be corrected by good.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

That's correct. Don't know why Gary said that. If he has a question he sends me an email. When people PM me for advice I encourage them to post their questions in the applicable public forum where others can benefit from the discussion. Then, if they want to PM me a link to the question, I'll take a look.

I think a fruitful discussion is being marred by arguing.

Well, back to the topic...though the last page or so was quite entertaining...

Kal, I hope that you are able to obtain some additional evidence so you are able to proceed with your visa application. Further, if you have any other questions about the process please don't be discouraged to post them here for advice. You will get a far better answer from those with experience in that area than you will from a spritual leader, though he will be good to use for the emotional side of this (it's a long process that's sometimes hard on you).

I know sometimes it's hard to hear what others say and perceive. It may or may not be your situation, but just keep what they say in the back of your mind and trust your gut. We (afterall) have nothing to gain from giving you this advice. I hope it won't be a bad situation for your sake. A broken heart is hard to mend. Be careful on your trip and I wish you luck on your journey no matter where it takes you.

Total elapsed time between filing I-129F to GC in hand 569 days or 1 Year, 6 months, 22 days.

I originally asked for clarification on the issue, which I have received. I personally don't see the connection, and don't necessarily agree with it, but I can see how some might. You clarified it by stating it was a very small part by itself, but when combined with other issues, it could cause further scrutiny. That much, I can agree with.

I'll give you an example. In Greece, more than half of the single guys in the street complimented me in some way. Now, should I meed a Greek guy, I will know what's the face value of a compliment of his because I can see it in the right context.

How does that translate to you possibly being scammed by one of those Greek men? Were any of the compliments you recieved disingenuous? If so, did you feel that you were possibly the target of a scam?
