I have a friend who came  to the USA with a 10 year tourist visa. But he received a letter a while ago stating that he needs to leave the USA in 6 months and then he can come back again. He’s been in the USA for 1 month now.  What can he do to prevent leaving . Is this normal for a tourist visa

He doesn't want to leave anymore. 

100% normal.  A 10 year tourist visa does not mean he can stay in the US for 10 years without leaving. .  He MUST leave prior to the expiration date given to him by the CBP officer when he entered.  In this case, it's 6 months.  I would not advise him to stay the entire 6 months, exit the US, then immediately return.  That could get him banned.  Tourist visas are for visiting...not living in the US.

Why would you try cancellation of removal if granted asylum? They’re two different things. Even if you’re hypothetically eligible for both you’re definitely not going to get two green cards 😂

My wife came to US on 1/16 and her permanent residence card was mailed yesterday. I was quite surprised. She also got her SSN card in a week after she arrived.
