It takes anywhere from 3 to 9 months. However, you don't need the physical green card to prove you are a permanent resident. Once you enter the US on a CR1/IR1 visa, your passport is stamped with a I-551 stamp in your passport indicating you are a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR). You can use that stamp as authorization to work and travel.

My wife came to US on 1/16 and her permanent residence card was mailed yesterday. I was quite surprised. She also got her SSN card in a week after she arrived.
