Most people get the letter around 5 weeks before interview date.

Thanks for that appeal case link.  Am I reading it correctly that the applicant in that case doesn't need a waiver anymore since their criminal record doesn't state what drug it was?  They are eligible to immigrate to the US?

Engagement party isn't necessary.  We didn't have one.  I think in the past, it can be seen as a wedding ceremony, so we chose not to do it.

I have never seen anyone on the VIetnam board overthink something as much as you are.  There are tons of non-Vietnamese Americans that have had successful K1 applications without an engagement party.  Probaly more than those that have for fear of it being viewed as a wedding ceremony and having to re-file as a CR-1.  Being Vietnamess American you are already in a better position than most non-Vietnamese American couples as far as the consulate goes.  Just relax and let your fiance go to the interview.  Better yet if you can attend with her.  It's going to be fine.

You should renew it.   What if she needs to travel?  There is know guarantee that she will even be approved for naturalization.  Everyone should have a valid passport.

Furthermore, it appears that Vietnam allows dual citizenship. In such cases, many countries that allow it require to use their passport to enter the country. You should check if she is required to enter Vietnam on Vietnam passport.

As far as the N-400 interview, itself, is concerned, it can be expired.  But for practicality sake, you might want to renew.

The length of time living together is irrelevant.  Both of the following must be true:
3 years as a Green card holder
3 years as a spouse of US citizen

Documentarily Qualified.  Only applies to immigrant visas, like F3.  Not applicable to K1.

I'll also add my 5 cents that while she waits on the I-90, she can schedule an infopass appointment to get an I-551/ADIT stamp into her passport. The stamp is valid for 1 year and serves as evidence of permanent residence during that time and can be used for anything an actual green card can - work, getting a social security number, getting a driver's license, international travel, etc.

Yes you need a reason to get a stamp, and you have a valid one. So that shouldn't be any issues at all. The infopass will always be svheduled at the field office that has jurisdiction over your zip code area, you can find your field office here: https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-a-uscis-office/field-offices

Just scroll all the way down and enter your zip code. Should be the same field office you had your AOS interview at, if you had one and haven't moved since. Bring the i-90 acceptance/receipt letter when you go there.

Yeah thanks.  We'll try to call SSA on Monday to see how soon we can schedule an appointment to remove the "valid only with DHS authorization"

Call the SSA office and ask for express interview.  Non-citizens should not be required to send the originals of their immigration documents as that would be against DHS regulations.  Cite memo EM-21041 if the SSA agent is not aware of this policy --

It would go to your lfo.
But you should have waited for your "RFE".

That's normal for them to say that when you get an inexperienced but boasty officer. They were trying to intimidate you because THEY didn't do THEIR job and go searching for your complete A-file as they were supposed to before your interview.
It's there, 99% of the time.

    That's silly. More intimidation.
    You should have waited.
    Not normal.
Only if you get stuck with an IO with an ego.

I saw another VJ user from Seattle updated their timeline recently for an interview next month, but they submitted their I 485 like 24-25 months ago.   So we probably have another 6-7 months to go.

Finally I got a sweet job ( after 1 hr long face to face interview with presentation on board) offer from Costco IT department  offering me a salary more than $100,000 per year
.. I am happy that all the hard work i put in finally paid off..so I just want to encourage all other ppl like me here to have patience and keep going ...u will get a sweet reward in the end.
