If you work or plan to work it is a good idea as an unrestricted SS card is a substitute I-9 document

@sweethrtt if you don't remove the wording, you may end up with pains similar to this person

I don't think there's penalty, just get the words removed ASAP while you have a valid green card / extension letter / I-551 stamp.

Also, make sure your employer knows you're a LPR, you may need to pay more taxes depending on your status (e.g. if you were on E-2 and similar, you paid less)

Dunno about you but for most of the past 2 years where I lived, SSA wasn’t letting people walk in to update SS cards.

Completely agree.  We are 7 months in, and I don't expect any movement on our case for the next year at least.  And personally, I'd rather have those resources used to get people EADs, so they can work and contribute to the economy.

A lot of people have success getting an EAD expedite with a valid job offer, so you could try that. It’s not the route I took personally, but there are many many success stories in the AoS forums from people who took this approach.
    This is also solid advice.

    Hello everyone,

After 20 years in this country I became a US Citizen today. I wanted to share my interview experience with everyone. I interviewed at the San Bernardino, CA office.

Walked in, went through security and provided the front desk lady the first page of the interview notice I received. I was about 10 minutes early. I was called by an officer right on time. I went into his office and he asked for my ID and green card, then immediately made me swear in. He introduced himself and went straight to the civics questions. I hadn’t even finished sitting down before he started asking the questions. Answered all six correctly in about 45 seconds. He didn’t go through my application beyond asking me briefly about a traffic ticket in 2008 and asked if I had fines (ticket was dismissed). Then he asked me about the trip I made to Europe in 2015 and how I liked it. Then he asked the “yes and no” questions, which was about 60 seconds. Then he printed out a paper saying Congratulations! and that I had been recommended for approval. He ushered me out of the floor and asked me to take that form and my green card to the first floor where I’d do the oath and receive my certificate. The entire interview took approximately 7 minutes.

Downstairs I went straight to the table where the lady was located with a lap top and gave me a document to put my address and sign. I went to a table on the side, filled out the paperwork and went back to her. Then she gave me a packet with the passport info and asked me to sit and wait. Five other people walked in and did the same as me. Then about 5 minutes later she asked all six of us to stand, we did the oath, and got our certificates. Then I left.

The entire thing from the moment I entered took about 20 to 25 minutes. The entire citizenship process took approximately 12.5 months.

Hope everyone’s process is as smooth as mine. After 8 years of using Visa Journey to fill out my green card paperwork, removal of conditions, and citizenship, I can’t believe this will be my last topic and now I’m finally done.

Thanks for all the help everyone provided over the years. You have all been fantastic!

Things should move faster for everyone, not just for N-400. AOS and ROC are the main steps before N-400. People can't wait for years to have their AOS/ROC done. They need to work, travel, set their lives. There are so many hard working undocumented workers who would contribute a lot by becoming legal.

Not accurate.  Non-citizens/non-PRs (such as EAD holders pending AOS) who had SSN and filed taxes were eligible even for the previous round of stimulus checks.

If you consider that most of these denied petitions will be appealed and won, that pushes the denial rate well below 5%.......In my opinion, that is good reason to just eliminate conditional Green cards all together.  Just issue 10 year cards.

I used my AP back in June to travel to Canada. Had no issues coming back in. He will have to go to secondary (the usual) so they can parole him in, but aside from that he shouldn’t have any issues. I was like your husband terrified to use my AP but as soon as I used it the first time I was not worried anymore.

So if you see anyone they need to quarantine as well. Well my family all work and have school so asking anyone to quarantine for while I visit and then 14 days afterward as their jobs or school requires is more than I can ask. But if you have family able to do so enjoy your visit!

I called CBSA and the agent told me that as a citizen I am exempt from having to stay for 14 days.

just to be on the safe side I may contact them again lol

I called CBSA today and as a Canadian Citizen you are exempt from having to stay for 14 days. However my husband, for example, who is not an Canadian citizen is not exempt and must stay for greater than 14 days. I read what you mentioned on their website and that’s why I called them to clarify.

But my question isn’t about the Canadian border it is about being allowed back in to the US.... I wasn’t sure if there was some rules about me coming back home to New York.
