I know it's so frustrating. I was chatting to an immigration lawyer and he said just a couple years ago, people from EAC were getting their I-751 approved in 8-10 months. Now it says 14.5 months. He was saying that I-751 is no longer a priority for USCIS. It's not one of those forms where they have agreed to a new processing target time. So given these new timelines, it makes sense for them to crank out as many 485s as they can, while not touching I-751s.

Yep, but I can kind of see why. We have status, we're not in the same 'authorized stay' limbo anymore as AOS folks are.

It seems like once people start putting in their citizenship applications things start moving, so I'm pretty much assuming that's going to be the case for most of us unless they really do, across each processing center, start approving without interviews at volume.

Yeah, I get that. It's just that I think I-751s are completely unnecessary given that the bar for approval is really low. So why even bother with a form that is not high priority for them?

Nope, keeping people stressed and not knowing what their future will look like is just bad. Then add all the divorce drama and you'll get the answer. 2-3 years processing time is just cruel.

Exactly. And for no reason, given that the approval bar is really low...

Unless, your extension letter expires.....then you can't travel or produce evidence of status until you get an ADIT stamp......that is a period of "limbo", too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning them sitting on our files and you both illustrate examples of where USCIS deprioritizing (or worse) removal of conditions has a profound negative impact on people who just want to carry on with normal life.

Ultimately I agree with Rocio that the i-751 should just be scrapped, but I expect it brings in too much money especially when they can get away with just putting things in a box til someone triggers an N400 combo.

I know it does sound stupid and I realize that what I'm going to say is one of those things that I will read tomorrow and say "what the heck was I thinking?" but I would write to the President, or the Director of USCIS, or whoever it is, to ask them to cut down on the ####### with I-751s!

I realize I sound greedy, but anymore I don't get that happy when someone says "I filed for AOS in January and got approved in less than 200 days!". Maybe it's because I'm past that stage, but all I am asking USCIS to do is to get rid of it altogether, or just work on the papers that are collecting dust in their desks!

They are not going to get rid of it, given it's probably one of their most profitable sources of revenue.  They were running out of money not long ago and they won't let this cash cow go.

It's also codified in the INA act, although I am not sure if that act mandates it or only suggests it.

In any case, it seems this is true for most services centers except WAC and SRC.  Those are still processing a bulk of their applications within a year.

Disagree 100%.......  Some of us have been waiting for more than 3 years for Removal of Conditions......The I-751 is ineffective and causes a great deal of trouble......When only 1 to 3 percent of I-751s are denied, it is an indication of its ineffectiveness.

I agree with you. It's useless and such a waste of time, esp with 1-3% being denied. My point was that given that they have set themselves target to reduce processing times for only specific forms, i can see how they will now only focus on those, and forget about I-751s. I think things will get much worse. Not saying that it's right, but if I was an officer working there and my bosses tell me that "our priority is to reduce timelines for forms x, y, and z", i wouldn't pay attention to other forms that are not on that list. Which sucks for people like us who have pending I-751s. Even though we have status, it's this uncertainty and inconvenience of the letter/adit stamp/license renewal etc.
