Always hear the crazy lefties on CNN say: “My Irish great grandmother came here looking for better life , America is a land of immigrants, we took the poor and hurdled ITS ON THE STATUE OF LIBERTY” radadadadada
That was the last century and even hundreds of years ago . We live in a very different landscae now. America is now a land of welfare programs.
You think they had poor childrens health care insurance , medicare, foodstamps etc .. when they arrived on the mayflower ?

With having such a welfare country you can not take most of your new immigrants from the poorest of the poorest countries in the world.

Chain immigration needs to stop . Democrats use it as a way to get new votes in the future but it is so wrong and bad for the country . I see my vietnamese neighbours sponsor all there parents now . Siblings already in the pipe and applied for. They still dont speak a word of english after 10 years . We need to make it easier for highly educated to come here and harder for extended family members if not scrap it all together.
This is not how ANY other western country selects its immigrants its old and outdated .

In regards to DACA . First they said only DACA should get amnesty because they came as no fault of there own . Then ####### Durbin and his gang of amnesty people go to trump and propose LEGAL STATUS for thr parents as part of the deal . Thats why the government was shut down .
They want unlimited amnesty for illegal immigrants but never fix the problem of how they came here initally .

I live in Arizona by the border and I can tell you first hand from talking to ranch owners who have illegal immigrants and drug mules break into there house few times a year and multiple border patrol agents that WALLS WORK. Yuma,AZ had a huge problem with illegal immigration and since they built a wall with fencing and sensors and drones it is down to basically ZERO .

No one is talking about a concrete wall but a wall in terms of inpenetrable fencing . With double fencing and additional technology . It will not stop everyone but it will give Border Patrol time to react .

Everyone knows it down here and its only the leftist elitists on the east coast and in hollywood who have never even been to the border that deny it .

Yes I am an Immgrant so what ? I did it legally and I saw firsthand what unchecked illegal immigration in the millions did to my native Germany in only 1-2 years .
We have to have a sensible approach . Keep the DACA people for what its worth BUT make sure illegal immgration is the past once and for all . Bring it down to the minimum , it can be done if its wanted I know that.

Chain migration is a thing of the past and has to stop . This is not anti immigration this is common sense. You had terrorist come through the visa lottery system and if its just one american citizen that died of the result of it , it needs to be abolished. Thats my opinion

Yes your family is being split up unfortunately due to your own actions. You were spending more time in the US than in Canada, which is not allowed, even for Canadians who require no visitors’ visas. If the plan was for you to live in the US, you guys should have filed a petition for that purpose as against the in and out you were doing.

Your option is for your husband to initiate the petition process which will certainly take over six months, while you remain in Canada for the duration. Alternatively, you both move to a third party country.

LOL at lawyers and USCIS reps. Buddy you might as well believe earth is flat then
The reason those people tell them that is because they have clients call in everyday asking where is my EAD/AP and if they tell them 3 months then those people will go crazy if its 92 days . Lawyers and USCIS Reps dont care about when you get your EAD/AP and most dont have in depth knowledge of the process anyway.

When I went to info pass at 60 day mark because I needed to travel to my home country and ask what status my EAD/AP is the OFFICER said its normal to wait 6-9 months for EAD/AP and I should come back then . I received it two weeks later... So yea.

Stick to visa journey timelines it is statistical maths. It takes the applications and approvals current and past and shows you a very accurate picture that is not from 6 months ago like USCIS website and currently it says 86 days.

Thats how long average AOS takes for most people. I mean lots of people have received interview notice in last few days and even some green card . So its completely hoax statement backed up by no data.

Yes, thats exactly right and it shows in this thread . People receiving late RFIEs havent received EAD/AP . Most people that get 485 status “ready to schedule” dont get this holdup .
Also you are mistaken in a sense that I485 gets processed in same place and officer as I765 which is wrong its a complete different department and officer workin on those .

That was the reason for the hold up in the first place . Because most EAD/APs get processed in 60-90 days currently for the majority especially filleds after october in 60-80 days .
I am september filler and it took mine77 days .
So when I always read you and other peoples post I kind of knew there was something going on behind the scenes ( like Avinash , where is he btw)

So make sure you respond quickly . This was likely the holdup so its good news but I can understand also frustrating . Share the RFIE with us please

I think they deserve amnesty ! For there crime that is. Oh wait which one , entering the country and staying here illegally or the human smuggling. It really doesn't matter, they are all amazing kids and surely from what all the lefties are saying those two pesky smugglers must have a medical degree or law degree at least. They just do this in there free time guys.
They will be back hopping across the border like all the other ones as soon as they get out. We need a wall(double fencing with road in between is BPs choice of wall down here and works amazingly well ) and we need technology ( sensors, drones, cameras,) . That has to be part of any deal.

Of course not all DACA are smugglers or criminals, the majority are good people . BUT , the way the democrats have talked about them is they made each and everyone sound like a harvard graduate on the way to cure cancer or invent a spaceship to mars.
They need to be the last of 680.000 , 800.000 or 1.8 mil or however many there are no one really knows. You hear new numbers every day and the way that can be done is through enhanced border security what I have outlined above. That has to happen before amnesty and then once the border is kind of secure not porous like right now they can have some kind of legalization forward although I think citizenship is taking it to far maybe lifelong EAD/AP ...

mustang85635 got a reaction from Brother Hesekiel in “Clean” DACA bill and Legal Immigrants.
Ok so lets say I go to china, brought there as a child illegally, do you seriously  think they would ever grant any kind of amnesty proposed for those people and give them citizenship, in the millions ? Why should any nation award the same kind of prize that everyone wants when you came here through legal means. No country just makes you a citizen like that and it shouldn't be the norm.

I have met people on DACA and they are fast food workers and hotel cleaners too . I hate that the left always paints them as doctors, lawyers and ivy league graduates. Also most are old now and not kids anymore.

I dont deny that there are those peoples but there are literally a handful of DACA who became doctors. Mostly for the fact that most medical schools in the country need you to be on a GC or USC once you start med school . There are articles about this online. Its a lie you can quickly debunk but never hear about in politifact or other fact check websites.

Also what I always find interesting and ask people that have the opinion like you is what are we going to do to prevent this from happening in the future? I mean if we give those DACA people citizenship now it will be on the news in all of central and south america and they will take it as if I bring my child over they will become a citizen one day and that will somehow give me an anchor to stay there.
Then I always get the same answer usually, why would we want to prevent that ? It shows that in the core people like you dont see these people as some kind of mistake in the system and want reprieve for them because its a unique and special circumstance, it shows me an agenda that most people on the left have to allow any person into this country whoever they are and where they come from . Its not something unique to the left here but same in europe and other countries . Certainly not China though

If there is any kind of amnesty there needs to be strong and tough border security measures. Its common sense if you feel sorry for those kids that had to live in limbo all there lives then you want to change that and make it very hard for other people to repeat this. If you dont then you have maybe a political agenda behind it but sense it doesn't make.

If you have lived in the USA for five years then you become eligible for Medicare. Yes if you have never worked or paid into the system you have to pay a premium buy into PART A and PART B  but for what you get in Medicare its very little compared to the overall costs especially as an old person .

Also like I said the states especially democratic ones handle it way differently they look at income and usually you dont even have to wait 5 years even as an immigrant because they pay through it with state funding.

Please dont come to this thread with limited knowledge and start throwing around facts that are only half the truth .
    Medicaid for immigrants
A 1996 welfare reform law stipulates that immigrants must have five years of legal U.S. residency to become eligible for federal benefits such as Medicaid. The good news is that some states decided to not adhere strictly to that rule, and they provide coverage through state dollars for those who meet specified income standards.
According to HHS data (see figure 4), as of 2011, 15 states allowed the use of state funds to provide Medicaid benefits for qualified immigrants who would otherwise be ineligible because of their immigration status – including the fact that they had resided in the United States for less than five years (note that New Jersey is included in HHS’ list of states that provide state-funded Medicaid coverage to recent immigrants, but New Jersey has changed that rule and no longer does so). So if your grandmother has a limited income, don’t rule out Medicaid as an option until you check with your state Medicaid office.

I feel sorry for you. You must have a very sad, miserable life to be so hateful and nasty.

To answer your questions. No, I did not have a choice about moving to the US nor am I free to move back home, even though I would love to because the US is a really  country to live in. But my husband, who is a USC by birth (as is his parents and their parents and so on all the way back to when this continent belonged to Native Americans), has a sick mother who can’t travel or move abroad. We take care of her because that’s what real families do.

If we can convince my parents to move over to the US, they would live on their own. Why would you think they would live with us just because they move over to the US? They have their own money and their own life. And since they’re from Europe, they’re two healthy 70 year olds who probably cost less medically than most 30 year old Americans. Not to mention that many of the foreign parents you seem
so scared of are well off retirees who bring their wealth with them to the US and spend their foreign earned money here, in the US. They bring money into the US economy, not the other way around.

See what you dont take into consideration is that yes you and your spouse paid a lot in taxes that is something as a US Citizen ( i take it ) You will have to do for the rest of your life on your worldwide income , so its not something you can count towards what your parents will cost once they get here .

Option one : They will be covered privately paid by you ( very unlikely given the cost, morally right but unheard of)

Lets say you and your parents will be in the same insurance as I am for the sake of the argument. Insurance obviously works a simple way the young and healthy pay for the sick and old and disabled . Thats usually the rule of thumb and nothing is wrong with that . But because they will have to be insured thanks to Obama even with pre existing conditions they can come here very sick and undertreated which is somewhat  normal for older people from third world countries . So while you paid all those taxes it really has no direct impact since its private business and I would be also the one paying for them since you know health treatment in the US can easily reach six figures with a single operation or treatment . My premiums will go up as a result of it.

Option two : They will be covered by medicare and the taxpayer

Same as above but now every taxpayer will pay for them and they will never contribute in the system or pay for it . One or two single treatment or over there last few years where most of someones life treatment cost come from will easily catch up the half a million you paid over the years .
What you forget is to add the overhead costs you and your spouse cost the governemen you are using roads , schools , airports . So that half a million in taxes is very very little for the overall cost .

You can really not twist and turn it . Parent migration is a big net loss for every US taxpayer. Thats why it should be abolished .

I dont know why but even though I want sibling migration abolished too that makes more sense because at least they will probably contribute somewhat given there age ... So parents category along with the lottery should be the first to go .

I always laugh at all the border patrol shows when I travel there. Not to mention every time I entered the country with my old passport it redirected me to have to discuss my visit and visa with immigration in Australia. Haha.

Yes and no . I have lived in Australia prior to coming here . The new parent category is heavily cappes and qeued . The wait times are very long . You can also only be sponsored on a permanent basis if your health is impecable . The government has doctors overseas that check literally everything it is  very thorough, nothing like here where there was literally nothing just a STD test .
If you are not healthy you only get a temporary visa where you have to cover the health care yourself . Also the sponsors must sign a form where they have to cover all costs for the parents once they are here .
There is real enforcement in Australia in terms of immigration and border protection . It is tough but smart and common sense . I miss that a lot . They dont ever give amnesty to anyone but there are clear pathways for you to immigrate if you keep studying and better yourself for everyone . Point based system just what Trump is recommending .

I'm curious about where these parents live after they move here? With the petitioners? The thought of living with my parents under the same roof gives me major anxiety, but that's just a personal thing. Another thing is, my parents don't speak English, what are they going to do here??
I personally don't really understand the need to be with parents, my husband's dad lives 2 hour drive away, and we see him maybe twice a year.... Sometimes I feel a little heartless that I would never consider bringing my parents over, but they would never want to live here anyway lol.

Ah, the parent ones must be new, I was helping a friend a few years (actually, nearly 10 years ago, damn I'm getting old) we couldn't find any such thing. Or they just weren't easy to find at the time.

The partner migration also takes between 12 months and 3 years, which is insane and IMO the reason why every single person I know that's gone this way has done it the "grey" way by coming here on a tourist visa then marrying & applying via Bridging Visa.   Plus there's another ~$5,000 for the PR visa after the fact (I think it's currently $3,500 but my aunt who is a lawyer is saying that it will likely go up to the $5k mark this year based on gossip she's heard)

Regardless though - I stand by my original stance - If you're moving to a new country to start a new life, there should be zero expectation of the entitlement to drag your old life with you.  If cultural requirements of closeness/support & immediate family is so important that this is a huge deal for an individual, the question should be asked if they'd be better off staying where they are.

By rights it should be the person petitioning for them, forever.  If someone is non-working and never will be, they should never qualify for any kind of state or federal government payments, benefits, packages, handouts or whatever you want to call it because they've never paid any kind of taxes or produced anything which would offset those costs.  That sort of thing is why immigration is such a hot-button topic in many Western countries (One of the key pain-points for many who voted for "Brexit" and the reason why Australia is undergoing our own immigration reforms right now and why the USA is having this argument).

As for me, as a potential immigrant - I'd support getting rid of chain migration (including parents), 18+ children AND the visa lottery. No other country in the world allows for petitioning of parents or siblings, nor of children who are legally adults - which, at least in the USA (and most other countries) someone 18+ is. I'm moving to the USA to start a new life. My family will always be my family, but if they are so important to me that I must live in the same country as them, then I would stay here and my partner would move here.

What I can never understand is this obsession with some immigrants here feeling like its there god given constitutional right as a new citizen to start bringing over there parents . Those parents contribute nothing to the USA , maybe good for free child sitting . But dont tell me you will have a sick parent on your health insurance, with premiums and stuff as it is . You have to be very rich to afford it in the long run . The minute they become elgible for Medicare they will be enrolled by all the warm and fuzzy do gooders talking rich here on the forum .
Sending over USD will go a long way in a third world country . I can understand the person wanting to get them over but you are biased because you are an immigrant . How does the majority of americans feel about bringing over siblings and parents ? I have yet to find someone that thinks its a smart thing to do especially when the smart educated people from STEM fields ( that graduated here too )are in the H1B Loop forever until they leave for Canada or Australia where it takes them little over half a year from overseas to get PR and are welcomed with open arms.

Family friend from eastern europe graduated with an undergraduate degree and graduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill ( ivy league ) and after that a PHD from same instituiton . He has been here for like 13-14 years and is now as a Ast .Professor for Political Science still in the waiting game for a GREEN CARD ! He is educating the future of our country and has so many times almost given up and packed up for another place with merit based system . His research is top notch and he is paying a ton of taxes every year .

And then you have parents that can come here in 6 months with no problem and no benefit what so ever to this country .
No other country like the USA has this parent migration.

End this thing of the past already good god.
If you want to take care of your parents you got a wonderful thing called western union .
