Just look at the date on your greencard. Go forward 3 years and that’s your eligibility date for citizenship if you are still married to your original petitioner.. I would submit N-400 maybe 80 days before your eligibility date just to get in the right window for submission. It’s not going to happen immediately anyway, so hitting that 90 days exactly won’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

You can apply to get one at your local office. If you ticked the box to receive one when you applied for your EAD, it should come rather quickly after you received it. Mine took 2/3 days after my EAD arrived :).

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
My husband is now a US citizen! His appointment was yesterday 11/27 at 9:30 am in Newark, NJ. We arrived one hour early and had to wait two hours to be seen. Check in was smooth, just the wait was long. My husband described the interview as smooth and said the officer was very nice. He answer the first 6 questions correct. Among the questions were: what year was the constitution written? Name a war in the 1900s, who was president during WWI? What do the stripes on the flag represent? (Can’t remember the rest). I did not go inside the interview office with him. The officer asked if I was his wife (he saw me in the waiting room). Fun fact: the officer walked in the waiting room and knew exactly who my husband was, he just pointed at him and said to follow him.
After the reading and writing part, they asked him the yes/no questions on the application. Then he was congratulated and given the “pass” form.
A nice thing about Newark is that everyone takes their Oath the same day so we went from super happy to overwhelmingly happy and grateful after witnessing such beautiful ceremony. 81 new citizens from 32 diff countries! Amazing!
So now we are over with this immigration Journey and more thank Thankful to God, who has been walking with us every step of the way,  to this community of Visa Journey for providing such platform to educate, keep us informed and form support groups during the various immigration processes.
Good luck to the rest of you and stay positive!

    Hey, Everyone!

Filed December 6th and no news as of yet. I have a question what has probably been answered 1000 times on here but I need full clarification. If we do not receive the letter before the Conditional GC expires, what do I use as proof? Do I need to submit any paperwork to my employer? What do I carry instead of my GC? Any info is great.

    Thanks!

You will reach your citizenship eligibility about January 2022 (based on your timeline) if you are still  married to your petitioner. Otherwise it will be January 2024 if not married to petitioner. But you can count on slow processing timelines dragging it out before you actually get that naturalisation certificate.

Yes, you send the I-751 form with more evidence showing that your marriage was bona fide and once USCIS receives your packet, they send the NOA and the 18 month extension letter.

I empathize with you OP.  Many immigrants go through a similar experience and it's hard.  My husband is going through a difficult time adjusting to life in the US since his arrival nearly five months ago.  He misses his family and friends terribly, the culture, the food, everything about Brazil basically.  On top of that he's learning English and how to drive a car for the first time, all of it is very stressful, so the combination of everything makes life a real challenge.  He works from home for now but will apply for other jobs once he gets his driver's license and that should help.  I found a very good Brazilian therapist for him, covered through my employer's health insurance, and she is helping immensely to get him through this period of transition.  We have talked about going to Brazil to live some day in the future but we both know that if we do that now, it would be difficult for him to get a US tourist visa to visit my family with me so we are going to wait until he has his US citizenship in a few years and then decide what to do after that.  I have seen first hand how hard it is for the non-US spouse to adjust to life in the US, it makes me sad, but also appreciative of the sacrifice being made so that we can be together.  All I can offer is encouragement, maybe find a good counselor who specializes in life transitions, keep doing what you can to make friends, enjoy life, and appreciate the fact that you are finally with the person you love and want to be with for the rest of your life.  Good luck!

we are waiting to see what will happen with the UK now, than we will be moving back.

Honestly, I would stick it out.

I’m from Canada so the healthcare and employment laws were a shock to me as well, and over 3 years later and I still have no friends.

My husband and I plan on relocating to Canada at some point, but as my window to apply for naturalization opens next week, so I want to
    complete this journey first.

10 years from now, if we’re in Canada and decide to come back, it will be nice to just be able to do that, without having to go through USCIS again.

    Hi everyone.

I made a few posts a couple of months ago asking a lot of questions and worrying about every little detail. People would post saying “Its not as bad as you think” or “Relax its easy”. I never understood this at the time. I now get why people said this. Because I was one of you worrying and stressing about the little details. My god the stress. Sometimes I would have my head in my hands about to blow. They make it so difficult and difficult to understand... But its all worth it

We applied exactly a year ago today. I am from Liverpool, UK. Right now I am sitting on my balcony in Orlando, FL. Sipping a cold iced tea looking forward to my wedding in 3 weeks time.

I think the main stress was The medical. Getting all of the right information and documents I needed. The best thing you could do is ask questions on here! Do not feel embarrassed or picky. Ask what you need to know! A lot of people helped me out on this and it is really great people sharing stories.

I had my interview on halloween. I arrived 3 hours early due to my train time haha. I sat outside in a beautiful park just outside the embassy watching people walk by with their folders and documents thinking to myself “I finally dont feel like I am the only one”.

So I walk in. Kinda like airport security. The guards were so nice. Asked me to check the bottom of my shoes. “Left leg up, and down” “right leg up, and down” “now both” we both laughed it kinda broke the ice haha. Then I walked around the corner and entered the building. Gave the woman on the desk my information and she stuck a ticket number on the back of my passport. You get called to the counter and again the woman was really nice. Laughing and joking. That lasted about 10 mins before I sat down again. The waiting area started to fill up and the number was getting higher. Finally I was called. I stood at my counter window and swore I would tell the truth with my right hand up. He asked me 3 questions “How long have you and your fiancée been together?” “Have you both visited in each others countries?” Do you have a bank account with savings” (I didnt) “Congratulations your visa has been approved” this is when I cried and he smiled. I walked out with tears in my eyes kinda light headed. The relief was unbelievable. I headed straight to the train station. It was a strange feeling. People around you are going about their business and their day. Not knowing what has just happened and I just got my visa granted to go and live in the United States with the love of my life.

I picked up my passport about a week later. It was in a giant white envelope with another envelope inside. This is the one you hand over to immigration.

I booked my flight (Luckily I had enough air miles for a flight due to all my visits. This saved me money which I was extremely happy with)

POE was the easiest thing for me. You dont need to use them electronic ESTA machine things which saved me a lot of waiting time (You do need to fill out the US Customs declaration blue form they hand out on the plane. The airline told me I didnt have to. The immigration office was kinda mad at that” I walked up to the man behind the desk “Hello, I am travelling on a K1 visa.” Straight away I was taken to an empty room and handed my envelope over to the woman behind the counter. Sat down for 5 minutes. Then called up. She holds my passport up with a new stamp “you need to get married by this date” I knodded with a smile and a clear yes.

I got my bag and my guitar and walked out and hugged my fiancée as hard as I could.

Now I am trying to get used living here in the US. (Especially with a Scouse accent haha) Not trying to think of the paperwork until after the wedding. Just being here and so happy to think we finally did it.

I want to wish everyone good luck on their journey because its one hell of one. It is the biggest decision of your life and there are no words to describe waking up everyday next to my fiancée knowing I wont be on another plane in 2 weeks.

If anyone needs to know any information then please just message. Again, Good luck!
