EAD card arrived .... what about SSN ?

Hi fellow V journeyers,

Just received my EAD & AP Combo card in the mail. THRILLED.

Was v excited at prospect of getting a SSN and beginning to work soon. However there is no SSN on the card ( there is a USCIS# and instructions that employers would accept it as a List A Doc when completing Form 1-9 Employment Eligibility)

Is there another step/process I need to go through to get SSN ?

Much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Andrea

You must visit your local SSA office and apply for SSN. https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Working in the US/EBE_Flyer_Apply_for_your_Social_Security_Number_While_Applying_for_Your.pdf

For more information on applying for a Social Security card, see this fact sheet (PDF).

Did you apply for SSN when you applied for EAD/AP? If I remember correctly, there is a box you tick on the form to say you wish to apply for your SSN too. If so, then you should receive your SSN around a week or so after you receive the combo card. I think I waited 6 days.

You can apply to get one at your local office. If you ticked the box to receive one when you applied for your EAD, it should come rather quickly after you received it. Mine took 2/3 days after my EAD arrived :).

Just read over my forms and I checked box to receive one, so guessing it will be arriving in the post soon then.

Thank you v much for your help
