Pee&Eee reacted to JFH in PANIC MODE! New US Citizen
I have three citizenships (although I will be losing one to gain US citizenship later this year/early next year) and carry whichever passport is most convenient for where I’m going. Or I like to confuse people by using my German one on the UK and speaking perfect English or my UK one in Germany and speaking perfect German. I was raised bilingually.

Wow. I am trying to imagine what I would do if my USC spouse decided not to marry me but to let me come over anyway.
I left a great job, the move cost me 3000 dollars (movers, packers, transport), I bought a new secondhand car when coming into the country (6500 dollars) and had to sell my old car (2000 dollars back), I sold all my furniture and most of my possessions, I had to give up my rental apartment that was very hard to find for such a good price.

If I would have to go back within two weeks, I would still have to buy a new secondhand car again (and you never get back the amount you spent in the first place), I would have to look for another rental place that would very likely set me back more than it did, I would have to find a new job, I would have to move AGAIN (another 2000 dollars; I am assuming it would cost less for only transportation of already packaged goods by them), I would have to buy new furniture (even secondhand that will easily set you back 1000 US dollars if you are one of those people that actually needs a bed and a couch),  buy all the possessions again that I sold but needed (cooking utensils, cookware, desk, chairs, printer, pc, ...).
Then think of the initial food and stuff you need when you move into a new place (easily 250 dollars that first trip where you need laundry detergent and staples and cans and paper and pens etc, if not more).

Then in addition to that, you have the plane ticket.

I calculated everything in US dollars, so I am assuming you can do the math to Ukrain currency.

And on top of that financial mess, you have the excruciating heartbreak (letting her come in only gave her hope that you loved her after all), and don't forget the utter embarrassment.

I think assuming that you're wiping this out with two months of her wages, is absurd.
Note that an apartment person usually requests 2 to 3 months rent in an account as a deposit alone. So that alone might be almost two months of her wages.

I get that this is hard for you too, but eff it, dude. You had to tell her clearly that it was over. This is insane, the financial and emotional you are putting her through now due to "cold feet" whatever that means. If you had doubts, you should never had let her come. You know this, as you were already googling prenups before she even came over. You would have had PLENTY of time to stop her.

I would definitely need MUCH more money than just the ticket and two months wages (despite having had an excellent paying job and a low rent) to survive the first few months financially.
And then the utter heartbreak and shame.

    This is insane.

Actually, if you have enough work experience in a related field, it would not matter if the degree was obtained the traditional way or online.

I personally know several people on both sides of this topic; people going back to or have complete online degrees and human resources managers/ hiring managers who recruit candidates. We have discussed this a few times. One of the human resources people I know works for a Fortune 50 company and has the same sentiments as follows.

Here are some real life scenarios...
Candidate 1 has been working 15 years in an industry. Have held many roles in production and design. Can't get any high level positions because of lack of degree. Went back to school online and obtained a BA. Is considered a top candidate due to the 15 years in the industry plus having a completed degree. Candidate 2 has nearly no industry experience. Yet completed degree online. Because of lack of work experience, is not considered a high candidate. Candidate 3 has little work experience. Finished degree traditional way. Did internship at companies within the industry. Is considered a good candidate because of  internship where s/he was able to get onsite experience and networking. Out of the three candidates, number 1 would be the most qualified. Fifteen years experience in a specific industry is extremely valuable. Especially if the industry is highly competitive.

Also, there are many traditional schools that have online programs. The biggest misconception is that people believe that an online degree will show that a person did not go to a brick and mortar school. That is not true. An online degree from these schools look exactly the same as a degree from someone who went to class on campus. This myth was rebuffed a few years ago by someone on Reddit who compared the 2 degrees from the same school. There will be no indication that the degree was obtained online.

There are some big name schools that have online degree programs. Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ohio State, and University of North Carolina are a few. And for Veterans, Temple has a good program.
    https://www.usnews.com/education/online-education/university-of-north-carolina-wilmington-2984/bachelors
    https://www.usnews.com/education/online-education/ohio-state-university-columbus-6883/bachelors
    https://www.usnews.com/education/online-education/temple-university-3371/bachelors

Not taking away from the advice @GP1977 gave you. But the truth is that if you get a degree that has a campus (meaning, not completely online), there is no indication that the degree was obtained online unless the hiring person specifically asks, which 99 times out of 100, they will not.

With that being said, if you go to a low rated for-profit school that is completely online there may be some scrutiny. But if you go to a accredited, high rated college, it will not matter if it is online. Arizona State is probably one of the more famous a schools that offer online degrees yet it has a full fledged campus with 660 acres and over 15 schools onsite. And even dorms.

Obviously, not every school will have a degree program that you may want. So it really depends on the field you want to get in. But many do offer health services management and criminal justice. With health services, you can get a degree in nursing. Purdue offers a BS program in nursing... https://www.guidetoonlineschools.com/online-schools/purdue-university-global?pid=21000.

Again, there are many variables that will come into play. If you have never worked in healthcare before and are just starting out in the field, then you may not be a top candidate when you get your degree. But if, for example, you have been a nurses aid for 10+ years, and you obtain a BS in nursing, trust me, you will be highly considered, even if your degree is obtained online.

I am speaking from experience with friends, family , and colleagues. I have a close friend of mine, who was a technician for over 15 years, who was directly told by her director to get a degree. Her director told her it did not matter what degree it was, but it just needed to be a legitimate bachelors degree. My friend was a tech that time with professional certifications. I can't think of the name of the school she went to but she it was an online degree program. She completed it in 3 years. And is now working for the same company promoted to an engineer with 3 direct reports reporting to her.

I really understand why gp1977 is advising to go for a traditional college. I really do. Many people feel that a college degree obtain by being on campus is more valuable than one obtained online. And in some cases, it may. I can see a person going for a high profile position at Goldman Sachs having their college experience heavily considered. But if you fall into the scenarios that I previously stated, with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, an online degree will not hold you back in your career.

@Roel, congratulations on your decision to go back to school. Which ever degree decision you make, it will be beneficial to you. For more references on online degrees take a look at the US News link below. US News post online schools and degree  program ratings every year. And every year the online degree programs grow substantially.

Well, the US citizen can't just blame the system for his ex being able to file for VAWA, the US citizen should really get to know their partner WELL before bringing him/her to the US in the first place.

I see so many of those types of cases here on VJ, people come here and complain "He only wanted me for a greencard, now when he has it he left me! What can I do to throw his ### out of the country?". The first thing you should've done was to get to know him before marrying him and bringing him here.. You clearly failed at that and now have to live with it.

I got an email yesterday too that my interview was scheduled. Just 3 days after I sent in my application for EAD/AP renewal. Well hopefully I won't need those anymore.
Also, I think your medical just needed to be valid at the time point that you applied for your greencard. I am not 100% sure about that though @minemar

Hey people, dont even know if here is the right place to post it but since i’m a july filer....
i just travelled outside the US and came back under the advance parole.
my husband and I went to brazil to see my family and vacation and came back 10 days later.
I was worried about entering the US with the advance parole since this whole immigration nowadays seems a mess but everything went smoothly.
The port of entry was JFK.
My husband went thru the automatic passport control and after finishing his stuffs we went together to the IO.
He just took my fingerprints, picture and told me because i was under the AOS i had to go to the sencondary screening thing.
Another office scorted me to the room while my husband went to get our luggages.
It was literally 2 minutes between getting to the room and leaving.
5 minutes later we were already outside waiting for the taxi to come home.
No questions asked besides “how long you guys were out?”

If you are worried like I was of travelling with the advance parole just relax.

Let me try and summaries the salient points:

    Parents and child are Muslim

Father and child are USC's, the wife is not.

Parents married in US, Mother returned to Saudi to give birth and Mother and Child are still there.

Not sure when a 1 130 was filed, process takes a year or so, child could move now.

Might be an issue with sponsorship, Father is unemployed, sounds like a Joint Sponsor is needed.

Father is concerned about local laws and their impact on his Wife, wants to expedite due to that.

Well anybody can request an expedite, not sure there is a case for one, but no downside trying.
