OP would need to disclose his AOS on the DS-160.  Zero chances of another B1/B2.

You have obvious immigrant intent. Chance of a B being rejected is extremely high, not to mention a lot of countries right now have exceedingly long wait times for B visa interviews.

It sounds like you are bouncing between "this client in the US needs to see me in person" versus "this client abroad needs to see me in person." Since we're still dealing with Covid, have you considered talking about just having a Zoom meeting in either of these cases? Just some food for thought. If you explain to people the immigration situation and especially how processing times have been affected by Covid, it seems like they would be accommodating.

You may want to read the forums here. There have been more than a few posts where the AOS has been used against the sponsor in court and not because the government was going after the sponsor. But because a lawyer twisted the terms of the AOS saying it was a promise to keep the immigrant at a certain level.

This is a case of them trying to push family by guilt to start the AOS process. This man has legal status right now and can OPT when he graduates. He will make his own money and start the process then. They don't want to wait. No way on earth would I sign the AOS for someone who is not even using his head that this issue can easily be solved. Instead this so called man is guilting his new wife telling her her parents are ruining his life. SOrry but a grown man should not be having tempter tantrums and attacking his wife. Because that is abuse already showing up this early in the marriage.

If you are old enough to get married, then you are old enough to do what YOU need to do to meet the financial responsibility for your spouse. Holding your breath or stomping your feet until mommy and daddy give you what you want is a sure sign of immaturity. The parents know this is the wrong thing to do and don't want to do it, but the threat of alienating their daughter has them frightened.

At this stage it is your petition and you can withdraw it without her being notified. Now if she has the file number she may be able to find information online about the status. If she doesn't have anything then don't worry about it.

Do not petition anyone who is causing you anguish. Mother or not you do not owe her anything if this will be harmful to yourself.

Not sure if I can still report fraud but it was just brought to my attention that my husband actually confirmed how I felt that he was using me for paperwork and that someone had told him that if he had a child he would still be able legally to stay here even if he filed for divorce . I have a child that we went through several fertility treatments to conceived and  he has absolutely nothing to do w his child. Smh

I guess I see it in cost-benefit analysis terms. As an educated person with (presumably) a good grasp of English, the son-in-law is likely at low risk of ever requiring means-tested benefits that would require repayment -- he's likely to get a job that would make access to those benefits impossible. Even if he did, the daughter is still the primary sponsor, and the government would seek to recover from her first... and she's also likely to be employed and able to repay given her educational status. The risk of exposure by signing an I-864 is (to my eyes) pretty low even though it does definitely exist.

On the other side, not signing is already affecting the OP's relationship with the daughter. Some people look at this as emotional blackmail, fine. But being in your early 20s these days IS still like being a child for many, many people, particularly those who have not been forced to get out there and get a job and have stayed in academia. And here are your parents, who have always been lovely and supportive, and who up until this point have seemed fine with your relationship and your life choices. I am to some extent playing devil's advocate here, but what might it look like to the daughter? That her parents don't trust her, that her parents don't like her spouse, that her parents would put the vague possibility of having to repay the federal government above the very concrete effects of not being able to stay with her spouse. Instead, it might look like they are separating her from her spouse to make a point, not for any actual harm they are suffering right now.

Should adults reckon with the consequences of their decisions? Of course. But why should some speculative maybe-maybe not dollar figure be given more weight than one's child's mental well-being? This is an opportunity to make it clear to the daughter and her spouse that it was utterly foolish to expect joint sponsorship, and to help them make a plan to avoid needing benefits. But I guess I just don't see the point in being "right" at the expense of harming your relationship when the risk is pretty low in reality. Is it worth more to be "right" than to force your child to live apart from their spouse?

There are many, MANY lower-stakes ways to help young people grow up and be more independent, like refusing to let them live rent-free in your home, or not getting involved in a job hunt, or not interfering their relationships and allowing them to get hurt, or helping them understand how money works in the real world. Young people (I assume these people are in college, so VERY young adults), like it or not, just don't have the life experience to fully understand the consequences of their actions, like getting married when all their financial ducks aren't in a row. I don't see the heightened emotions as being a red flag -- these are kids, even if they're legally adults. That's just kind of how it is with kids. I remember being 20 and thinking that everything was the end of the world or the very best thing ever, because I had nothing to compare it to. Red flags are the son-in-law being emotionally abusive, to the daughter or parents, or lying about his past, or taking part in dangerous behavior. Not, "I really want you to help me be here with your daughter, whom I love, and I will do what it takes to avoid anything happening to you." Unless you don't trust them to get jobs and be responsible adults, there's a danger of alienation.

Enforcing separation to make people "grow up" seems unnecessary. Just my two pennies. I know a lot of you will disagree, and that's fine. But if my parents did this to me, frankly I'd feel abandoned and like they don't trust me.

    i would delay the process
    let them finish college
he returns home and they apply CR1 /it would take almost 2 years to get to interview and then she could have  a decent career

you don't have to feel guilty for saying No  , they made AN ADULT decision to marry

I'm Filipina married to an American citizen. I will be naturalized before the end of this year. Fingers crossed.
I hate how the OP seems to suggest that he has been an unsuspecting victim to this "Filipina culture". He knew this was coming. I'm not suggesting that he was not taken advantaged at all. As much as I hate being lumped with these Filipinas who take advantage of American men, marrying for green card/citizenship, I'll be naive to deny the overwhelming amount of cases like OPs. I effing hate the stereotype but they exist and will continue to exist, because reasons. BUT let's not also ignore that plenty of these American men marrying Filipinas have the upper hand in what is basically a financial transaction (Yeah, marriage is mainly a financial transaction. Fight me! LOL). No one held a gun to their heads demanding they remain ignorant of the downside of marrying someone from a 3rd world country. If you ever felt like you were taken advantaged of because the wife's family kept demanding money and you couldn't say no, that's not exactly a wife problem. Maybe grow a spine.

To any American men wanting to marry a Filipina, you cannot change the culture. BUT for the love of all that is holy, invest time to know the woman and her family. Also, IMO, not having a job is 1 giant red flag. An adult woman should have a job. If she insists on supporting her family, let her do so with her own money. And remember, NO is a complete sentence.

Why not look for a partner for their own merits, rather than someone from a specific country who you assume will be "simple"?
