Yes, actually, you are. You could correctly say, "I was asked at this embassy for wedding photos at my interview."  That would be sharing your experience. 
You should not say "this is required" when that item is not required.  Had you not provided that item did not mean they would not have granted the visa.  Saying an absolute like this is calling it a fact.

I have seen a lot of generalized comments in this thread, but it sounds like it would be best for you, OP, to take the issues that you have brought here to wife (again, if you have already done so) or a marriage counselor rather than this forum. It true that she may have just married you for the green card. It also may be true that she has personal reasons for her behavior. 
 
From what you have written here, though, I truly recommend taking action and bringing these issues up before they possibly turn into resentment.

Dude, there's a difference between trying to help someone who's going through some pain and being crass. Can you stop trying to tell everyone to go get laid?

Because I am Canadian.  We are polite to everyone.  

You might not be getting the answers you were hoping for, but people are just trying to help you see that its more than just getting a travel visa.  I've given birth twice and I can't even imagine going through it in another country without my family and friends there for comfort and support.  If its an uncomplicated birth she will only be in the hospital 24- 48 hours at the most.  So, after she is discharged she will go where to recover?   ... to a hotel?  Neither her nor the baby will be ready to take on an overseas flight.   Definitely not covered by insurance.    will you have all the items necessary there and waiting for the care of a newborn?   Giving birth is a painful but beautiful thing.  Enjoy the birth of your child with family and friends and leave the stress of the immigration process for after.

We just went through this exact same situation. We needed to travel back to Romania to attend to some urgent family issues. We had been hoping while we were there her 10 year green card would have been ready, but after we had been gone about 3 1/2 months, they were still a few months away from us. Our total time abroad was 4 months 5 days. We didn't encounter any issues at all at our pie, he only asked if we were together the whole time and stamped us good to go.
 
We did a ton of research on this issue as things weren't in a stable position for us to leave yet, but there was no way we were going to abandon our hard work to get this far. Here is what I came up with regarding going abroad for an extended period of time.
 
1) The one year rule is pretty much set in stone unless you have the travel waiver which can extend it up to two years, but that is only for very exceptional circumstances.
2) While being gone over a year pretty much guarantees abandonment, they say that border control officers can pull you in yo secondary screening at any time and you should be mindful of this even if your trip is 3-5 months. It is 100% at the officers discretion.
3) In order to file for naturalization, you MUST be on US soil three months prior to filing, we could have filed by now but we are now delayed three months.
4) The definition of physical presence means you maintain a domicile and address in the US you live in. Physical presence is still established for trips of up to 6 months (this is the 6 month rule thing). If you are gone longer than 6 months you have lost your physical presence and it will make getting citizenship very challenging in the future.
5) Your *1 year* starts on the date your passport is first stamped going abroad. The theory is that you MUST be physically in the US for at least half of the year to avoid big issues. Also, it is VERY highly unadvised to take a long trip abroad, return for a short time, and then leave again for a long trip. From what I've read this is a HUGE flag to immigration officers as it looks like you are living abroad and only coming here for brief periods, they have an honest right to assume you've established a new residency abroad.
 
Hope this helps. Plan your trips ahead. Last minute flights are pricey.

Your issue has nothing to do with being a same-sex couple.  Your issue is more that you are a mature couple who have been independent and are now just trying to mingle your separate lives.
 
You have given us a lot of good information about WHY your financial situation is what it is.  Now, you need to write a letter and both of you sign it, and explain everything you have told us.
 
1.  Why you have separate health care.
2.  Why your driver's licenses have different addresses.
3.  How you handle every day expenses (and trace to your statements)
4.  Re-iterate that you have made wills, and that the real estate will go to you if your partner dies.
5.  Be very deliberate - over explain.  Cross reference your explanatory statements to documents that prove your statements.
 
You will be fine.  You just don't look like a young just-starting-out couple.
 
My spouse is not my my deed.  She is also only on ONE car, not both.  But she is on the homeowner's insurance and on both car insurances.  This was not an issue - but I explained it up front.
