NYCruiser got a reaction from Stubmeister in Section 8
Joint sponsor is another loophole President Trump needs to remove. Abuse of our laws and public charge. How on earth can people go abroad to find find someone, sponsor, apply for paperwork and be on welfare is just beyond me.

It is NOT harsh. The USC who sponsors the spouse should be in a position to know their finances. If not, then don't bring someone from abroad and live within your means. Why expect us the taxpayer to finance you??? I gave a comment in support of this regulation already

Easier said than done. You have no idea what future responsibilities come up or enablement of lazy children

NYCruiser got a reaction from Kiolas in N-400 Filers @ New York City, Queens and Long Island Field Offices
Hello everyone. I had my citizenship ceremony a week ago at the Federal Plaza, New York. Here are my impressions. I will update my timeline.
Since you all been wonderful in this process ans helped me, I intend on helping others (as much as I can) in this very worthwhile process. Forgive me if the detail below is observation dense, but it is of interest to some.
The whole process of the N-400 took 5.5 months from start to finish for New York City. I think this maybe fast as I note here.
We got there to the ceremony with two friends in tow. Very well organized. Very New Yorkish attitudes. Brusque and efficient. The crowd seemed to be very well behaved and slightly in awe. They had Christmas decorations in the room too (odd), but yet. The ceremony do not have a Federal Judge and was rather perfunctory with two USCIS Officers speaking. When President Trump spoke on the Video all clapped afterwards (hopefully these people will all vote for him in 2020).
They gave the certificates by passing them out. No handing to them...also odd. Then people took pictures and left. We took one by the flag and one by the Homeland Security Name plate which was a great backdrop.
The voter's Registration people were aggressive to get me to register to vote. I think she got deflated after looking at the section about party affiliation. My application may have been relegated to file 13 for all I know afterwards......:-)

Got my letter for the Oath Ceremony. I have updated my timelines. So I applied for Citizenship online based on a 3 year marriage on May 28th 2018. I got an interview in early November 2018 and a Oath Ceremony this week. December 7th.
6.4 months. The estimated time was 9 months in my account with USCIS

Being too eager with Immigration is a red flag. It is like you are directing their thoughts to what you want them to think. Sitting quietly directly behind (if possible) those classy windows at Embassies so you make eye contact with the IO is a great idea. I think it is a great idea to go. (They are 'usually' pretty good to US Citizen Petitioners because we can complain about bad treatment to our Senators etc...).
Good to see India allows. Kenya Embassy refused my spouse to come with me. (security was the reason given which is baloney)

I would recommend a dual power of attorney. Same as in Will...two people on it working together something like that. As someone said, get an Attorney

NYCruiser got a reaction from NYPeach in Holtsville, NY for InfoPass and I-551 stamp, tip for New Yorkers
Updating this thread in case anyone goes up that way.
I got the InfoPass during one of my late night waitings on the USCIS Appointments page. Took a while, but got one in the early afternoon. This place is far from anywhere except if you live in Suffolk County. The traffic on I-495 has to be seen to be believed!! However, when you get there they take you at your exact time. The Officer was friendly, took my finger prints, face scan and authenticated me.
She knew all about the delays of the I-751. She said thats all she and two other colleagues do all day is stamp the I-551.
After she stamped the passport, she specifically said when entering the USA, to not panic and show the CPB Officer the Passport stamp, the expired letter AND the expired Green Card. She seemed very happy that we submitted the N-400 as well.

You need to come up with solid proof such as Wills, Power of Attorney, Living Wills, favouring each of you, bank accounts, Credit Cards, Life Insurance, Travel Insurance, Photos (a few), log of chats on Whatsapp, Notarised statements of friends/Relatives (US Citizens), Invitations to events etc...in descending list of importance

Apply for Emergency AP. It is free (don't forget to include the NOA1 from your I-485 form). You have three weeks left, though with the holidays?
Can your family make it to a border town and meet them on the US side? eg Bellingham WA, Buffalo NY, Lake Champlain NY? Etc?

Yes ours did the same. Interview was on Nov 8th. The IO handed me a paper saying he cannot make a decision at the moment. When we left the building, there was a text from the USCIS website saying it was approved. This is SOP and the IO said they have backlogs for the Oath Ceremony. Our date that was projected was months away.
