If your processing goes beyond the 18 months and you need to travel you can make an appointment and get an I-551 stamp in your passport. If you switch jobs during this time or even after your letter expires you do not have to present your expired green card and extension letter, you can present a DL and unrestricted social security card. Hope this helps.

Up to you.  That's some time away.  If you want to get the letter now, and it won't be lost or misplaced between now and when it's needed, go ahead.

I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you to everyone on Visa Journey. This morning my husband officially became a US Citizen—ending our nearly 6 year immigration journey. Ours wasn’t an easy one. It involved a denied K1 visa petition (2015), a successful CR1 petition (2017), Removal of Conditions (applied in 2018, approved July 2020), and Naturalization (applied 2019, approved July 2020), along with 5 trips to Ghana and 2 ½ years living apart. I know there are some on here that’s cases are even more difficult than ours was.

Thank you to everyone for sharing your knowledge and experience about immigration. I am so grateful to have a community who understands the complexities of immigration, as well as the emotional toll it can have on someone and their relationship.

For those of you still waiting, don’t lose faith. I know it’s hard waiting but I can promise you it’s worth it. Good luck to you all!

If you would like to get a lawyer then that is your choice. But I tell you from 7-8 years of of being on this forum that what you are being told here is correct information. There is a wealth of information on this website and we often deter people from retaining a lawyer.

i am not saying that it will not work. When you live together the quirks come under the microscope more. Things you thought you knew about that person may change. Different environment, different dynamics. I was perceived as quiet and reserved and mutual friends informed my now wife. After we got married I become an opinionated, talkative, outgoing person. My wife is the opposite of me, introvert with a people limit and loves quiet time. We have had to work through some things and trust me it has not been easy; I continually choose my spouse despite her flaws. Assess her flaws and whether or not they are deal breakers. Bliss can be ignorance Again, not saying it will not work, but everyone is indeed different.

I understand that you may have the money to support your girlfriend and her family right now, but on a side note, it is always advised that the beneficiary not quit employment or dispose of property, etcetera before a visa is issued.

When I read this, I think about patient’s that I serve in the mental health field. If I start with the easy topics they will expect this all the time. When it comes to the hard topics they will then want the easy way instead.

In your case you are lavishing this woman and her family with necessities but gifts as well, in all totaling 30K. My question to you is does she love you for you or does she love you for the gifts? I understand she has been a family friend for 30+ years but there is a difference between intrinsic (valuing a person) and  instrumental (valuing what you can get from a person) value. If you value someone instrumentally, you should first value them intrinsically.  My suggestion would be to spend time with her and don’t over lavish, then you will find out if she truly loves you. For all you know she could come to the USA and send money back to her parents without you being aware. I do recall this happening with a 90 Day Fiance couple, Chantel and Pedro.

Get to know her but also be cautious. If she comes to the US, gets her green card, and then leaves, you are required to pay back any benefits she receives until she has worked 40 quarters (approx. 10 years) or becomes a US Citizen through the agreement made with government via form I-864.

If we're just going to focus on that it looks like they're trying to commit visa fraud by marrying someone they've never met and trying to look for loopholes from these forums to help them commit said fraud. It's also objectively strange to get married to someone who lives on the other side of the planet and not wanting to visit them. Fear of flying is a thing, but if you're investing that much money into a relationship, especially considering how much that money is worth there, that's going to get questioned even more.
If they met 2 and a half years ago, I don't see why she hasn't visited him, it's not like he couldn't have paid for a flight if fear of flying was the only thing stopping them from meeting.

This whole thing sounds like a series of red flags.

    @moneythat,

Dude, give it up. Revocation of Citizenship is not in your control, you are not USCIS. As I said earlier, provide evidence you have to USCIS and let them investigate. Also, whether or not they investigate is not in your control either. In all the time you have been posting here, you could have sent or met with USCIS to give them the evidence.

Do you really want to go through all of this stress and anxiety to not know what happens? They may not even let you know the results of the investigation. Again I ask, why stress what you cannot control?

Here is what you can control:

    1. Turn in your evidence to USCIS

    You cannot control:

    1. Whether or not USCIS investigates
    2. Outcome, if investigation happens
    3. Whether or not your past spouse gets denaturalized

    I rest my case.

And what a bargain it is, compared with what immigrant visas in other countries cost......Australia and the UK come to mind.

Immigration is expensive, full stop.  And we are in unprecedented times with the COVID, i.e. there is nothing in recent world history for us to draw from.  Immigration was a much different deal during the last pandemic.

As someone who waited 14 months for husband's AOS interview after filing, I'm no stranger to waiting.  It sucks, but we all get through it somehow.

Edited to add:  If you really want to do something tangible to help, wear a mask.  The sooner we get our numbers under control, the sooner we can resume normal life in the world of immigration.  77K new cases in a day in this country is shameful.

i agree that you pay for USCIS to provide a service and understand that what I am about to say is not an immigrants fault but a financial decision out of your control. At the time that USCIS announced changes to their fees last year, I looked at the fee compared to what it cost to complete the petition, etc. Upon reviewing this information USCIS is not even operating at a break even point financially, they are operating at a loss. I am also going to add that the current fees have not changed so they continue to operate at a loss. This, combined with the result of less petitions, etc due to COVID, may be why card production backlog is being experienced. I am in no way saying this is okay, but be grateful and thankful that you have status with your NOA1 and visa. As I have said in other posts, and I will say again, when you start this process you are not in control. I tell children that I work with all the time to assess what they can control and cannot control. If we worry too much about what we cannot control or what we ought to have it can wreak havoc on the immune system and make us sick. Been there, done that as a teenager, and paying for it in adulthood. This process is not easy, and at times is not quick. Again, I’m sorry that you are going through this but the article is misleading, people who are legal are not undocumented, they still have legal status. I want to go one step further and say bring your NOA2 and your cell phone with you as proof of card being in production. Download USPS app to track whete your card is located and USCIS Case Tracker app for your case in case you get asked about status.
