My fiance and I have an age gap, and we both have only met for 3 weeks once. We have an attorney and thinks we have a strong case. I'm just here cuz I'm curious about what you guys think, is meeting once enough?

Edited the title for clarity.
  • winternev changed the title to K1 visa filing. We met once for 3 weeks, filed the application just a few weeks ago.

The more you meet the better, of course.

What's more important, is it going to be a strong marriage if you only spent total of 3 weeks together?

We were dating for 7 months before meeting up in person. It was the best 3 weeks of my life, and been so in love with each other more since then. Our attorney reassured us that our case is strong.

Still, a part of me thinks we should still meet again soon, but I also don't want to pressure him as it definitely is not cheap to come here.

Why only once?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Sorry, didn't realize you're beneficiary. Now a lot of this makes sense. Still, as an immigrant coming on K-1, there's going to be a period of time when your US citizen fiancé and later spouse will have almost absolute control over your immigration status. You need to ensure they won't stop process due to issues in relationship or financial problems. I'd take time to know your other half as much as you could before committing to this difficult process.

If the lawyer is a real lawyer (searchable on AILA), not a paralegal, then sure, listen to their advice.

Best of luck!

If only getting a visa was as easy as an attorney saying the case is strong. Why would someone pay for an attorney when they say the case is weak and needs more time together etc? You need to convince and show the consular that your relationship is legitimate and strong.

With regards on it being not cheap to come there, how much extra would it cost to get denied, have to not only have the petitioner visit again but also pay for another petition and wait another couple years?

Don’t panic.

My husband I started dating online Dec 2020.

We didn’t meet in person until March 2022. We were together only 5 days. We got engaged and when I got back I filed for K-1.

March 2023 I went to his country for a week and a half. Met his family and friends.

K-1 came through October 2023.

We also have a 14 year age gap, I (female) am older and twice divorced.

Even with all those red flags we had great evidence and were approved. Married, adjusted to a green card. One more year until we go to remove conditions!

You’ll be okay.

I wouldn't worry about the age difference. My wife is 21 years younger than me. Just make sure you have good supporting documents to back up your case. We had photos together from 3 different trips I took to meet her and her family. I also included about 2" of Facebook and Skype chat logs. If he has a receipt or apprasial for the engagement ring, include that. I would also include any wire transfers he's made to your bank account.

Chiming in with my two cents, because our case was incredibly similar - minus the age gap. We also met only once for 3 weeks.

Everything went smoothly, the visa was issued today.  I'd still suggest attaching plenty of evidence to your I-129F. Chat & call logs, gifts, ... That's what we did and I believe it played a huge role in why we were successful.

We have attached many photos of us in different restos, and also photos of us with my family. I hope that'll be good enough, I'm getting nervous. I just want to be with him haha
