Visit visa to permanent residence

I applied for my mother green card 2 years ago and everything is done except the interview we are waiting for the interview date.. meanwhile I applied visit visa for my mother and she came to united states in janaury 2023 her 6 month visit is going to complete next month and I am willing to change her status from B2 to permanent residence and applying to transfer her case from my home country to united states.. my question is does anybody know how long it take to change the status from B2 to Permanent residence while staying in the states on visit visa.. 

Ps. The case is all complete just waiting for the interview date.

Why would she want to adjust her status when she can complete the consular processing process?  Completing the consular process will be a lot less expensive, and she will be a Green Card holder immediately upon entering the US with the IR-5 visa.

it's called adjustment of status. depend on the field office who adjudicate the case. average 8-18 months. i said average because there's no way knowing when the case will be adjudicate especially this year USCIS does a lot of LIFO.  

 

i really think it's better for ur mother to go back, wait for interview, and came back as LPR. she also can tie loose end back home while waiting

Probably better for future family members who might want to visit too, right? A family member adjusting status while in country might affect their ability to get visitor visas.

In order to change for her interview to be held in the US you have to file I-824 to change interview space. It takes 2 years for that to be approved and she will be out of status. You can file her I-485 but her interview will not be scheduled until I-824 approved.

2 years is typical now to get I-485 approved.

I thought I-824 was needed when I-130 specified adjustment of status and the beneficiary wants to switch to consular processing and not the other way around. 

 

I cannot think of a single such “consular to I-485” case where I-824 was required. Would you mind linking to one?

Right, what I mean is keep the interview in the home country, as others have suggested. Otherwise, in the future if other relatives apply for visitor visas USCIS might think they would end up adjusting status in country too

Which country will you mother return to and interview in? 

Many people before have decided to adjust status while waiting for an interview date at the embassy- then they are surprised/confused when they receive an interview date at embassy while still waiting on EAD and AP- and the person adjusting really needs to go back home.

I agree with most of the others, if you switch at this time, you go back to the start relative to the I485 form which can take 18-24 months to process and 8-12 months to get an EAD or AP.  Since you are so close to actually getting the IR5, it seems prudent to stick with that route unless there is a substantial circumstance back in the home country.  Also, you need to understand the potential headache that could occur if the US Government bureaucracy does not actually communicate with each other properly.  

 

In the end it is up to you and your mother.

You can look up processing time for your local field office on USCIS.gov.
