You can certainly try. However, I do remember reading here one case where instead of closing the K3, DHS closed the I-130 by mistake. Granted, it was only one case out of so many, but it seems that it might happen. And honestly, I don't know how much it would actually speed the process.

I know it is easier said than done, but patience is key throughout this process. You're just starting.

If they are not issuing them anymore then why is it even on the site anymore? That doesn't even make sense.

It exists in statute and was created due to delay in getting CR/IR visas done.  That delay was well in excess of the current (relative) processing times.  It is an option that is available when there are issues preventing a CR/IR visa being issued. It might as well be considered at obsolete since it is so rare. In the last decade it has predominately been utilized in rare cases within Latin American "triangle" countries.

A policy change at NVC rendered the K3/4 visas virtually obsolete back on February 10, 2010.  A more recent policy change by USCIS took NVC out of the picture but the impact is the same.  The policy change was to consider the immigrant visa "immediately available" once the two petitions arrived at NVC together, which they almost always did since an earlier USCIS policy change (to process both petitions together) was implemented in November, 2006.  USCIS just recently decided that since sending both petitions to NVC was useless, they simply started administratively closing the I-129F once they joined it to the I-130..  BUT....what sometimes happens is when the joining is done, they go ahead and approve the I-130 while it's already in front of them.

For the OP, all this does nothing for the step child for whom they have not yet filed an I-130.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Got my text message today letting me know they received my I-129f.

When might I see it on the USCIS website? or will I?

Is the # they sent in the text message is that my receipt number or will that come later with the document?

How do I add my K3 info to my timeline?

You should be able to go to https://myaccount.uscis.gov/ if you already have an account for the I130, and then add the receipt number there - I can't recall if the text message was the receipt number, but if it started with three letters (EAC for instance, depends on service center) then yes thats the receipt number. End of the day, the K3 case will just sit there and nothing will happen until your I130 is approved, at which point the K3 tracker will change after a day or two to "denied".

K3 info doesn't fit onto the VisaJourney timeline for I130.... I just added it to my timeline comments.

So, if you have the online notification/receipt from your 'MyUSCIS' page then that is good enough for the I-129F filing. Correct that this one will be by mail, and no fee. Just check the instructions on the official page (found under the form itself) and you'll be good to go. It's pretty simple, don't overthing any of the questions and you'll get it done pretty quickly.

Yes, the I129F is the correct form. You will see one of the first questions on it asks who you are filling it for - wife or fiance - that's how USCIS knows if they should process it as k1 or k3.

There is no filing fee for the I129F if you have already paid for the I130, you just have to provide the first notification USCIS gives you for the I130.

You will send the I129F form to the address listed in the instructions. Both the form and instructions are available here, I recommend that you read through both because I think all the questions you ask are covered there 😉

Yes, good point! I was thinking about it in my case, before my coffee kicked in - I filed I130 online, so basically immediately I had a PDF receipt available to print out (they later mailed an official form, but I had already filed K3 at that point.)

Not every online 130 gets the NOA1 immediately. Mine showed up online just before the paper one reached me.
