A while back I saw an article or documentary about various scams:  romance, business opportunity, Nigerian Prince, etc.

 

One of the common things among these things were spelling and grammatical errors.  They investigated why these occurred, because normally the perpetrators were well educated and/or had easy access to language tools.

 

The main reason for these errors was that they were intentional.  If someone could overlook them and not be skeptical, then that person is considered a prime target to be more readily deceived into whatever else the scammers say or demand.

Sometimes I notice ones without formal spelling or grammatical errors, but there is just 'something' about the way it is written that sounds like it comes from someone who is not used to writing in 'business English.'

To state the obvious,  a lawyer with decent experience in dealing with US immigration authorities should be well versed in business English.

I didn't see any mention of them being accredited on their website.  The P.S at the end of the email was also a bit alarming. Pardons? Sounds like the potential employee has a ban.

Well it does not seem that the OP is coming back.

 

Pardon or perdon is a term commonly used by Notarios who may not be aware that an Employer can not file for a Waiver.

 

Whilst it is possible that somebody could be working in a restaurant legally on some sort of work visa much more likely they were not.

I'm here. I've been keeping an eye on the conversation, but didn't see any questions that needed answers. I relayed to my friend to not respond with any of his or his business's information to the email he received. Like I said before, I don't know the circumstances of this previous employee's employment with him, why he is no longer in the U.S., etc.; I was just asked if the email looked legitimate or not.

Thanks for this - I've run into plenty of "notario publicos" in Mexico. I'll send the link along to my friend so he can be aware.

 

The part about pardons threw me too. Even if the employee was deported or had a ban, the phrasing was super weird - enough to throw up red flags about this "lawyer/recruiter" for sure.
