The land border is currently closed as far as I know for Canadians to cross to thé US. There were talks about US unilaterally opening the border, but I don’t think that has happened yet.

 

You can always fly to thé US and back.

That’s not how I read the response.

 

Until a month or two ago, thé validity for the Police certificate used to be 1 year, but Montreal could ask for an updated one Depending on your case. 
 

Now the validity is extended to 2 years, but Montreal could ask for an updated one depending on your case.

 

Basically, the Embassy has always had the discretion to ask for an updated Police clearance even if it is still valid. No point in getting it updated unless you are asked for one.

At this pace are we likely not to see a big batch of interviews for August? Just curious (was hoping for the entire OCT DQ to have their interview scheduled-for August....)

Do you mean K1? I think, one of two days of K1 interviews per month is going to be a permanent fixture going forward given they are of equal priority to immediate family. 

 

On a positivé note, with Montreal going into green zone come Monday, I would think the embassy can increase capacities in public waiting rooms and increase staff working in the office. That gives me hope the batch of IR1/CR1 interviewing in August will be bigger than the batch interviewing in July. I doubt it would cover all of October though, but you never know....

Can we hope for virtual interviews anytime soon? Or Will it take something like a year for it to happen?

I think this draft was published a while back and includes a lot of great ways to reform the system. Unfortunately, I don't think any of this will be put into in action for a while. I guess it's good to know that things are changing and we'll be the last batch of applicants who have to wait this long.

Hi everyone. I disappeared for a bit. My husband landed into New York on April 9th, few days after he received his passport in mail. We planned to cross the border early morning, the immigration officer didn't take him into secondary, Infact forgot to even stamp his passport didn't give him any welcome to America package or anything. We found out this was an issue when my husband applied for SSN in NY and they couldn't issue him the SSN as there was no stamp on the passport. Anyways, long story shorty he went into JFK airport to get the passport stamped. Them his SSN arrived within few weeks. But it's going to be 3 months for him on July 9th but no green card. Any tips on this? Did anyones green card take this long to arrive? At this point, his work has already been transferred from Toronto to u.s., he can probably use his visa as green card replacement for HR, but just wondering how we can track down green card with USCIS. It's impossible to reach them my phone.

K1's have officially passed up IR-1/CR-1. I was DQ'd Nov 17 and I have a friend who did K1 and got their NOA2 on Nov 25. They just got their interview scheduled in August.

Oh really
I am aware that they have a lot of discretion but I assumed the police clearance dates are set in stone and just simple math 😂 . So, I still feel like it would be a safe bet to update it lol in case the officer decides he would like to see an updated one.

That's awesome! I checked the K1 excel sheet and it seems like they've scheduled an interview for December as well. Hopefully, we can expect good progress on IR1/CR1 next month.

Quick Question - If an affidavit of support was done, a the interview, I need to bring the Form 1040 of the joint sponsor from previous year (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/MTL-Montreal.html#pre_interview_checklist). Which one is it ? When I applied we used the 2019, but could it be now the 2020 they want now ? Thank you.

Once he hits 3 months with no green card he can submit a case inquiry for a case outside of normal processing time (the form number is OS155A, which is the immigrant visa packet that needs to be processed in order for his green card to be produced). It might be a bit complicated to determine when this date is because of the issue he ran into. It's probably safer to assume that the date he went to JFK to get his passport stamped was when his packet was processed so I'd use that one (or the date the fee was paid, whichever was later).

 

The good news is his stamped passport is his green card for up to the first 12 months so he can definitely use that with HR and he still has another 9 months to get this sorted

A question ? Does stamped passport good enough for return to US after international Travel, or should one wait till he gets the green card before?
