Birth certificate from Belgium

 Share

I have a dutch language birth certificate from Belgium. I have asked them for an international birth certificate and they sent me a digital certificate.

It does not have the names of my parents on it, like it does on my dutch certificate.

Now I am not sure what the appropriate certificate is.

They told me they can have  the digital one legalised.

But immigration asks for an long birth certificate and the one they sent me digitally seems so minimal.

See attachment:

If  the digital one is the right one, can someone tell me if I need to have the certificate legalised?

Thank you,

Leon

You shouldn't post your birth certificate or any sensitive information due to possible identity theft on such a public forum 🙈

Okay so I also cannot delete this post I found out.

Guess I just have to leave my info up here and trust everybody not to steal my identity.

Not that I am worried about it.

I have sent a request to forum administrator to deleted the attached .pdf.  FYI, for future reference, you can use the "Report Post" button in the upper right corner on the post to do that.

Here is the Belgian birth certificate that my husband received from his municipality which is also digital. We have redacted the names and places, but you can see that they provide the names of his parents. The certificate is also already translated into English, Dutch, French, and German. If you cannot get this from your municipality, we have used Rush Translate to translate other documents that were in Dutch into English within 24 hours or less and USCIS accepted this without any problems.

So next, and hopefully last, few questions.

Is it possible to translate the certificate myself?

Is there a person from belgium that can tell me what kind of birth certificate to get?

You cannot translate the certificate yourself. Sorry. It needs to be a "Certified Translation," meaning "the translation comes with a signed letter provided by a translation company swearing that a qualified translator performed the service and is a correct and accurate translation of the original document." USCIS accepted my spouse's translated certificate, which had a hand written certification on the back of the English copy. I'm pretty sure part of the certification involves notarization too, but the good news is is that there are an abundance of places you can get this done.

👐

Patience......patience.

Incorrect.   It is common knowledge that if the OP is fluent in both languages,  then they can absolutely translate it themselves along with signing an attestation as such.

YMMV
