I have seen a lot of folks justify some of the political rioting that has gone on for more than half of the year here.

What you have seen are people supporting demonstrations. Nobody is supporting rioting. Some (including myself) sympathize with the conditions that would make somebody want to riot, but nobody here actually condones the destruction of life and property.

i watched ted cruz's speech yday

it seems like his/the republican idea of meeting in the middle is: keep re-counting the votes until trump wins.

its just not reasonable guys no matter how much you wanna push that it is. trump lost fair and square many times. any one still supporting the grift needs to move on and stop egging people to put their lives in danger while they watch from the comfort of their home/bunker. its not acceptable or sane at this point

yday was akin to 9/11 in many ways. people will not be able to visit the capitol/white house for months, perhaps years at this point. i remember in 4th grade when my school's trip to the white house / dc was cancelled because of 9/11. we heard so many sirens through the night last night. its sickening. i have never heard that before with "antifa". yday revealed so many weaknesses in america's structure.

to see a black cop practically running for his life from an angry white mob yday after years of hearing the "respect authority" crowd say its not a racial thing was peak irony. nothing that happened this years or years previous was never about respecting authority or following the law.

people have condemned that though

why do you think a target being looted is on the same level as a group literally planning to kidnap hundreds of people and hang them? do you think it deserves the same level of attention/condemnation

you probably think of yourself as "pro-life" too lololol

Not sure I was talking about a Target getting looted, but whatever you need to justify it.  All political violence/rioting is wrong regardless of where it occurs.  DC is no more sacred than Portland or Seattle or Minneapolis, etc., etc., and the people in DC are no more important than the folks elsewhere in the US who's lives have been ruined by the political violence you appear to be trying to distinguish as being different than yesterday.  Of course there are those that dismiss it as 'whataboutism', go back a few pages, there is already a discussion around that, and comparisons can be a very good tool.

someone throwing a brick throw an art supply store window !== someone potentially trying to kidnap the vice president

rioting is wrong no matter who does.

protesting police violence !== political. police are not political. they are police unless you are in a fascist state/country

people protesting on the steps of the capitol === fine. people hanging nooses and intruding with guns and zip-ties to stop a lawful ceremony !== fine.

Yes, mostly peaceful right.  Tell that to the police that have been blinded by powerful lasers, or the folks that have had commercial fireworks shot at them.  I am sure you are donating to the funds to help out those victims of mostly peaceful political demonstrations based on narratives you agree with.

dude, everyone there yday was based on a complete lie and was willing to usurp OUR democracy. this is much worse than stealing plushies from target. its like you have no scope or depth of field here lol

It clearly wasn't a lie, and despite having an out to abandon contesting the election that many spineless Senators took (likely because they didn't want to in the first place and because they probably wanted to go home and sleep), there were many Republicans who still went forward in objecting (fully knowing it wouldn't amount to anything) because they knew it was the right thing to do. There's no context whatsoever to what you call "usurping democracy", if it's contesting elections that you consider "usurping democracy", you'll have to square that circle with the three times Democrats did so when a Republican President was elected in just the last 20 years, or, every single time a Republican was elected this century. Go right ahead.

Last I heard, police are officers of the state and they uphold the laws duly passed by the state, but sure, justify attacking police.

For some reason, all the objections to the electoral college vote in 2016, or 2004 or 2000, etc. etc., never got much attention.  Must be the more reasonable side.

Ok, it's clear you won't engage on this subject in good faith, so I'm gonna move on.

And you don't know anything about what causes I contribute to, so maybe sit down and be quiet on that.

Courts rejecting things repeatedly were never a basis for them being right or wrong, or else there'd never be Obergefell or Roe.

so what you're saying is that you want to test this in court for the next 30 years? perhaps with another generation of voters then?

very reasonable. lets keep trump the president for the whole time and we contest this over generations. good compromise for you correct? thats the equity you are looking for in this situation?

this is what i mean when i say one side is pushing things way too far. you have no reasonable stopping point to where you will believe trump lost and just accept it

Let's just call it what it is, it's  race based it was shown yesterday for all to see. In 2013 Miriam Carey a black woman was shot and killed by capital police after making a U-Turn at one of the police check points on capital grounds. Look at the BLM protests or to some riots, look how heavy handed the police, National Guard and even Trump were towards them.

Enter January 2021 you had capital  police taking selfies with this largely white mob, there was even a lone black capital policeman running for his life after being overwhelmed by a white mob all caught on camera. The capital police were literally holding the insurrectionist hands gently and escorting them off the steps again all on camera.

It does not take a genius to realize things are not equal, things are much different  simply depending on the color of ones skin. This has existed for many hundreds of years in the US. It's not going to go away any time to soon. Systemic racism you betcha.  I supported Biden, but he is not even going to he able to fix it. Racism is in grained from birth  from one generation to the next. The quicker we as a people understand and realize it only  then can a solution be had. Until then it's just lip service. I will admit that in my lifetime (6 plus decades) things have  gotten better than when I was born. I submit to you that as long as there are different  kinds (races)of people, different  cultures there WILL always be racism.

i remember this when i first moved to DC. it was very sad, because i think she ended up having mental issues and that was the cause of her erratic behavior.

you cant convince me that if everyone yday at the capitol had on turbans and hijabs with brown skin and beards we would not be bombing another side of the world right now.

I was in sports clip getting my hair did today. Some Black guy was on ESPN ranting about how if that had been black people their blood would have run in the street. So tired of the hypocrisy. Did not BLM just loot and burn and occupy for 4 months while police pretty much got out of the way and let it happen.

Then the talking heads last night on CNN. Cumo having a stoke, while for the past 3 months he has all but defended the riots by BLM. He actually said during those protest. You cant expect protest to always be nice.

Joe Biden was asked many times to denounce the violence by BLM and refused

If one can't even discuss this with some semblance of reason themselves, they really shouldn't be talking about others about reasonable. I have no idea where you think the ridiculous hyperbole of 30 years and generations will get you. This sort of stuff is why comical memes were made. I've said on this very forum that people are owed their challenges until the dates set by the Constitution. I told people not to expect things to be concluded until January. I read the room and understood the process, even though I disagreed with the outcome. Biden was officially elected yesterday. You can settle down now.

An unarmed white woman, who served her country, no less, was shot in the neck and killed by Capitol Police. There were no riots, race bait, or defense of her actions as she was trying to get onto a Congressional floor where members were cornered. Instead, as usual, people pointed out she got what she deserved. The people who want to see race in everything, and particularly with the same script every time, are the ones who clearly have the race problem.
