Hi guys, 

 

Just looking for possibilities here. I currently live with my grandmother and take care of her sometimes. She is not on my tax return or anything like that.

 

I am just curious if she would be eligible to help me meet the income requirements with the I-864A? Thanks!

no, she needs to be an immediate relative, on the form she has to mark the relationship to you,. and prove realtionship. if she makes enough, she can be your joint sponsor but you can't add her income to yours

 

spouse, parents, siblings, or older children can be your household members

While it is true that a grandparent can act as Joint Sponsor (not household member) an elderly joint sponsor is not the best choice, as they may not be around to fulfill their obligations under the contract.

You don't have one unless you have taken the steps to set it up online.

I don't they are asking if I have an actual account, just the account number provided to me. It's on the I-797C i received but I wasn't sure if it was my account number or the beneficiary's(my wife's)?

That is the receipt number....not an account number.......

Nope, it literally says "USCIS Online Account Number" right next to it. There IS a receipt number but it's in another box.

My question is, since I am the US Citizen sponsor will i have one? When I got the I-797C notice of action for the I-130 i filed it had that account number at the top, but does it pertain to me or my wife that I'm petitioning? Thanks!

Hello there everyone, thanks always for helping me here and being patient. 

 

I'm currently reviewing my options for qualifying for the $38,350 per year needed to petition my wife. I currently only make about $35k per year at a job I've been at for a little over a month. 

 

I'm faced with either getting another part time job to fill that gap or getting a joint sponsor (which i cant find).

 

Anyways, how long would i need to be working at any of my jobs before it would qualify me? Could I just get a part time job and after a few weeks when I get my first paystubs use that to document my income? 

 

My past 3 years of income never met the $38,350 annual requirements either, most were well below. Hopefully there is some hope for me? God bless!

You need to have that job at least till she has her interview/ gets the visa because it's all about current income and it's advisable that you have it for longer than just one paycheck. I guess at least 3 would be better.

How big is your household that you have to make 38k because you're only talking about your wife.

Strictly speaking, you only need to be working there long enough to provide evidence of current income. So one paycheck would be long enough to be able to count the annual income from it with your current income on the I-864.

 

Practically, the CO will look at the totality of the circumstances to determine the likelihood of becoming public charge. A brand new part time job may or may not sway them. If they believe the job is not stable yet or you intend to stop it once the visa is obtained, they will make a decision on the public charge side of things with that in mind (and likely not favorably IMHO).

Just get the part time job and do as many hours as you can. Don't even think about how many hours. Do 80-90 hrs if you have to.
