Thanks. So basically just the 1040 and then any w-2s and 1099s i might have? What is a schedule?

You may not have any additional schedules in your "complete" federal tax return.

Hi everyone,

I have a wealthy family member i was thinking of asking to be a joint sponsor for my wife in the Philippines. I don't think he can document his income too well but he no doubt has significant cash in the bank.

I am wondering if this would work to meet the requirements for income? I remember reading it should be like 5 times the amount needed in annual income? Thanks!

Yes, liquid assets can be used instead of income but income still must be stated and documented.  Study and follow the I-864 instructions for this.

They do seem to prefer income.

"They" whom?  NVC, does "seem" to prefer income because it makes their job easier, but they aren't making the final decision.  Consular Officers don't prefer income over liquid assets.  They must consider the totality of circumstances.

Yes, every time liquid assets are used to cover an income shortfall, NVC sends the same message indicating income is insufficient and the Consular Officer will make the final decision.  They "suggest" that the petitioner may want to provide a joint sponsor, but they are not requesting or requiring that.  They send the same message when the sponsor has hundreds of thousands in liquid assets as they do if it's only tens of thousands.

If that is all you filed, then it is complete.

Lots of documentation will not be an issue

He documents his income with his latest tax return.  Use the "total income" number from the return.  Don't be surprised if that's a negative number.  He's not going to want to document his real estate equities though.  Very easy to document cash in the bank though. Show him the affidavit of support and see if he's still willing to act as joint sponsor.

Thank you sir. Yeah if I can manage to get his help then doesn't sound like too much trouble to document his income.

If he HAS income, it's easy to document.  Many landlords have a negative number for total income.  Rental "revenue" is not the same as "income".

Hey all,

I'm trying to finish up the I-864 and see that it asks for the "USCIS ONLINE ACCOUNT NUMBER" for both the sponsor and the immigrant.

My question is, since I am the US Citizen sponsor will i have one? When I got the I-797C notice of action for the I-130 i filed it had that account number at the top, but does it pertain to me or my wife that I'm petitioning? Thanks!
