My husband got the job of his dreams and we are debating if we should accept the job.
we live in Florida and it would imply moving to another state in the Midwest.

he would have to begin by 5/5.

I’m afraid if he accepts the offer and then the whole country is in lockdown because of COVID.

what would you do? I’d love to read opinions.

thanks

Whole country will never be in total 100% lockdown

YMMV

I would suggest that he contact the company's HR department to see what they have to say about on boarding during this time, as they will also have some idea about the situation in the community where the job is located.

It would be a shame to decline a dream job if you can make it happen.

Ignoring current policies of the existing employer and the new employer is Work From Home possible with either employer?

Is either employer in an industry considered Essential?

My husband emailed them asking them that question.

I hope that’s possible, but God knows how long this virus is going to last :(

I would take the job. I wouldn't sweat the small things. You're talking about a dream job, I would already be packed and on the road.

Not an immigration question. With that said, he should consult people in the relevant field, talk to current employees of the company he is considering (if possible), and have a Plan B if he leaves his current job and then something happens with the new job. Nothing is certain today, so leaving a job and speculating that everything will be OK is risky (depending on the job field). It seems that almost every job may be affected. I'd get some advice from the new company before signing. Good luck!

That actually wasn't my question. The current policies of the employers are irrelevant. Shelter in place is coming.

The question is whether is possible to that job at home.

So for example, I am a computer programmer. I don't have to be in an office to do my job. I can do it at home. Prior to the shelter in place order, company policy was that each manager decides. Now the county, and now the state of California decides.

So again, is it possible that the job can be done at home? Which of the two jobs can be done at home?

Only if the type of work is possible from home and they agree with that if required, i suggest the move. In the current scenario, you don’t need the nationwide lockdown, just consider that it could spread out to wherever he is relocating and his office could remain closed for a good time.

Consideration needed unless you can move without movers and the large moving trucks. They may be federally diverted by then to carrying only food and essential medical supplies.

The chance of the federal government commandeering trucks to do their bidding is so slim I don't see it happening, no way, but let's humor ourselves and say it does happen. No way they would use moving trucks, they are not designed to haul freight, they are designed to move house hold items. They don't line up with docks, they sit lower than normal freight trucks, it's not what they are designed to do. I mean, in a last resort effort, maybe, but I wouldn't want to be the guy stuck loading that trailer with respirator parts. I'm sure moving companies will be around.

“Possibility to wfh” isn’t a strong enough assurance.

He needs a written assurance that if there is a shelter in place  order, he can wfh.

By 5/5 the accepted offer could be withdrawn.

Then he needs to permitted to start the job sooner.  Like next week.
