I don't know what or who Kring Kring is but thank you. ❤ I apologize for being oversensitive, just a lot going on at the moment.

 

Back to topic, I agree we should just love and marry who we want. But having thought on this a little I don't see what's bad about filtering out potential partners early who might prove to be incompatible later on. Maybe not on the first date, but discussions about core values seem like something to bring up fairly early.

I agree with you. What I observed though is that political discourses have overtaken  other bonds in culture. 

The new mediums of communication weaken local and traditional relationships and create new "communities" and bonds that didn't exist before and new virtual relationships.

Before we had defined constructs for our relationships like parish, denomination, village, town, blood relations, in law relations, country, province, language and accent. The bonds defined us and our relationship to others and therefore how we acted.

Most of these relationships were bound to the land and we could only move slowly and at great risk. Today I can set out to a new relationship with someone I don't know in Bangalore or Bern over an interest, a hobby or a set of ideas. Those bonds can quickly gel into new "relationships" that disrupt the traditional bonds. In the case of Cambridge Analytica et al,  that disruption can be exploited for a group who has the money to pay and the lack of moral boundaries to stop them.

So back to our hypothetical daters. I have two girlfriends who have disolved marriages where one of the things that came out in the breakup is these men were did hard MAGA hats.  One gal was up a bit in the Democratic party leadership in Oregon. I don't know the real causes of these relationship changes, but this new bond outside of the relationship didn't help.

I think that if we use too many filters, we run the risk of isolating ourselves to a lack of understanding differing viewpoints on subjects. It's one thing of course to date someone with a different religion or political ideal than your own and quite another of course to have that person turn into raging idiot that isn't respectful. That's when you have to cut 'em loose. And you have to want to recognize those signs, be willing to nip it out quickly, and not hang on thinking you can change that person into someone else.
