buffets

I've always wondered whether people get fat because they go to buffets, or whether buffets attract fat people.

Might be a distinction as murky as the difference between "I see what I eat" and "I eat what I see."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Many years ago, a colleague and I decided to got to a buffet for lunch.  Neither one of us were particularly large, and quite honestly we were dwarfed by the size of folks at this buffet.  He whispered to me, ‘hey there are a lot of big people here’, my response was “well, it is a buffet”.

i think buffers tend to attract larger folks.  My rule on the rare events that I do go to a buffet it one trip only, no second helpings.

Oh, heavens, man -- your philosophy should be to eat more in the value of the food than what you paid for your ticket.  It's the American way.

I think people are attracted to buffets because they are frugal. Then they eat as much as they can for the same reason. I see people of all sizes at buffets, the only common denominator for most is they are trying to eat way than should be naturally possible in a single meal.

We used to have a particularly vocal member who married himself one of those.  She drove him crazy, then left him for another woman.  He’s still not quite right to this day.

Interesting, because I consider buffets to be overpriced... hence the mandate to (over)eat more in the value of the food than the cost of the buffet.

An interesting video from just now:

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I rarely go to buffets, but there are a few near my workplace and I have gone if several people are going. They are all cheap ($15-$20) and they all are set up to try to get you to eat as much cheap carb and vegetable dishes as possible so they can still turn a profit.

Buffets are expensive nonsense, and only a few actually offer something that is good food. Go to PA Dutch country and it's the king of buffets. Lines stacked out the doorways. Still, I am only a one plate kinda gal, where I see other people get plates and plates full of food. Hubby will stuff himself sick. That man can eat some food and still be skinny. Yes there are usually bigger people there, and I suppose it is because they enjoy the food and find comfort in typically not going a fancy restaurant that's going to give them some stares. They want ''down home'' type stuff. But mostly I think people like the novelty of it. I once went to Benjamins in SC. They claim to be the best or something.... and it was quite possibly the worst thing ever. Just could not compare to what's offered up here.

When my wife first got here, I brought her to a few buffets as they don't have them in her home country. It's interesting for folks to experience if you've never been to one. She said those places would be out of business if they had one at her country.

I always went to a buffet while in the service for lunch, whether it be pizza, BBQ, Thai, Mexican, and Chinese. Now that I'm older, I don't need the extra calories.

😂 I could not imagine bringing my wife and the Filipina mafia to a buffet, there would not be a Ziploc bag left within a 100 miles

IDK. If they can make money with buffet's in the USA, I think they can do it anywhere. As long as they follow all the tricks that buffet's use.
