When we did our interview in Rio, there were two couples  that requested to pick it up right at the embassy and the visa was ready the very next day. I don't think there are any guarantee's, but I guess it is possible.....

In 2015 NVC experienced a world wide outage of the visa printing system which lasted about 3-4 weeks and caused delays up to 6 weeks and longer as they worked through the backlog. I didn't hear all the details associated with the breakdown but part of the system for printing a visa involves some kind of final background check, and I believe that was the part that went down. It was frustrating yet illuminating because I was under the impression that once you were approved at the interview, you were going to get a visa. My wife's interview and approval occurred 1 day before the outage and we ended up waiting 6 weeks for the whole situation to get sorted out.

This "horror" story will probably not happen to you. Good luck!

My husband interview is August 13th. In Dominican Republic, I will be there but have to leave Aug.16th. And would love to bring my husband back with me. I heard you can request to have the visa issued the same day? Has anyone ask and actually recieved the visa the same day? Is it ok that i ask the CO?

Even clear cut approval cases aren’t usually issued same day.  There may be a few scattered exceptions but we literally walked into an interview once where he was asking questions from a folder stamped “approved” and didnt get  the visa until a few days later.  There are some paperwork items to clear up before the visa is printed and placed in the passport.

This is definitely not a reason to expedite. Otherwise everyone would ask to have their visa the next day haha. Expect to wait the regular processing time after the visa interview

Tell me about it 😂

Can you ask?  Sure.  Will it happen?  Most likely not.

Many years ago, I did DCF for my wife in Canada and the medical and interview were in the morning, her IR-1 visa was issued in the afternoon.  But the days of anything related to US immigration being fast and easy are long gone.

Hmm, "to request" to get the visa on the day of the interview? I would LOVE to be able to request that! But as I have understood, the word "request"is not to be present in a visa applicant's vocabulary 🙄

Maybe thats where the rumors of same day came up from over 10 yrs ago!

It seems like now i better not dare ask or request that.

Yep, I remember that since it was when my wife got her K-1. Thankfully she got hers right before the outage happened.

It’s free to ask.  No penalty, nothing to stop you.

I also obtained my visa at the time of the interview, things change and I have not seen that happen for a very long time.

Does anyone know at what point in the process the background check is done for those who have lived in the US. Is it USCIS that does the check or the state department?Prior to interview or after interview? I am not sure but could have an effect on when the visa is actually issued and delivered to the applicant

Based on interview notes over the years my guess is that any findings are included in the package sent to the embassy.  A lot of spouses have had “did you know...” questions related to the petitioners background.  Just a guess.
