Can you get a driver's license in NY without EAD? Or did you already receive your EAD?

Think so. But not that fast, you've got to get learner permit first. EAD only serves as a federal ID, if you are good through the point system without it, you are good to apply for a permit. Namely you need foreign passport with I-94, SSN, a utility bill and a bank statement. Also a card to pay the fee right on the spot.

For local commute I carry my NYC ID with me at all times. Passport with even valid I-94 stamp kind of scares people off.

Thank you! However, the dmv site says foreign passport with valid I-94 and my I-94 has expired because it has been over 90 days so I'm not sure?

I already had a license (got while I had my J1 visa). You can get a special license in CA and NY just approved it as well.

It’s technically for undocumented immigrants but in the DMV’s eyes we are in sort of a grey area until we receive an EAD or green card.

But I believe you wont get any questions asked if you use your passport to travel. But like someone mentioned before, I would travel with every documentation I have (Like your I-797)

You can find more info about the NY license here:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.democratandchronicle.com/amp/1476918001

Hope this helps!!

That rule isn't implemented yet :( it says "the bill will take effect in 180 days"

Why not at least try. At their website they encourage applicants to bring all documents they have from DHS. Have no idea what they really mean, so why not ask. I was pretty sure that they do not do walk-ins, and in Brooklyn the closest available appointment date is Sept 25th, but my husband says just go there like he always does. My admission is till Sept 18th, so I will try to go Monday or Tuesday next week.

Received (per Fedex) by Chicago Lockbox on 26th August, 2019.

They have deposited both $1,225 and $565 cheques (I-130, I-485, biometrics, etc).

I have not received any confirmations of receipt or communications from USCIS yet. Is this normal?

When my card was charged last month on the 23rd , I did not get the text notification with the receipt numbers until the 26th. You don't necessarily have to receive them the same day funds are taken.

I never got the text messages and just received our NOAs in the mail. Hopefully yours is on the way... The Chicago lockbox received our package 9/3, deposited the check 9/5, then we got our letters 9/12.

I’ve read many of you guys didn’t receive text confirmations.. Did you send the G-1145 form on top of your AOS packet? I filled it out for each of my forms (I-130, 130A, 485, 864, 765).

For those who have not received any text or letter of confirmation yet, I heard it takes 1-3 weeks to process. If your case took longer, it’s worth calling them or chat with Emma on their website..

AOS + Employment Authorization + Advanced Parole sent on August 14th.

NOA for all 3 received on August 16th.

Biometrics appt was September 13th for AOS and Employment Authorization.

Status changed to fingerprint review complete on September 14th.

Just an FYI to people on this forum. There is NO application fee for the employment authorization and advanced parole documents when you send it in with an AOS application or when you have a pending AOS application. So unfortunately, a nice few of you paid $565 extra for no reason.
