So I will take that as a "I don't know the cost of these immigrants, I don't know what we plan to invest the 5 billion in and one should not have an expectation that the IRS will process their return."

I do think we all agree that it isn't free to deter, care and feeed illegals,  I do believe the current incarnation has been determined to be steel to lower cost, as to the IRS processing returns I am sure they will at least keep the evasion detection auditors gainfully employed.

Equating the border fence to the Berlin Wall as has been stated by others, not really the case, that was designed to keep people in not people out.

Consider the border wall as similar to a lock on your house, it will stop those not overly motivated to get in but an individual that is motivated will circumvent the barrier.

Do you use doors, locks or fences? The border wall is merely an extension of the on a national level

Oh and just as a note,

MY FAMILY SUFFERS BECAUSE OF THIS GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN DIRECTLY!

My husband is a USAF veteran and currently works for the DOT.  He is working without pay.  The longer this goes on, the less likely we can pay our upcoming bills.  Eventually it gets to the point where he may need to find other work to pay mortgage payments and car payments.   It's not like the mortgage company is going to let us do menial labor to pay or even care that the gov't is shut down.

When your family is the one who can't pay their bills because they have to work and won't get paid, let me know.  We can collaborate on what this means for us, not for others who aren't actually directly affected.

As per the Berlin wall, it was not a reference for the PURPOSE of the wall but with that said: a wall in which keeps people in, also keeps people out.  If you look at the scope of the wall, guard towers, a middle area, two concrete or otherwise built walls plus the guards, guns, ammunition etc required to man said wall (all on tax payer dollars mind you.) Again, how man people are needed to patrol said area and what would be the yearly cost to run a wall of said size.

I can totally relate to you on this. When I was with the Department of Interior in 2013 when it was shutdown I started getting concerned about this time during that shutdown. So I know how feel and I am sorry. Luckily I am with the DOD right now and we are funded for the year so we are still getting paychecks.

But I am actively trying to move away from the DOD(due to issues with the DOD) and on to the SSA,EPA, or the DHS. So if I worked for one of those departments or agencies then I wouldn't be getting paid either.

I have been affected by government shutdowns in the past while on active duty, yes it was difficult,

I am not deaf to your concerns but you are being used as a political pawn by both parties, neither is willing to concede the victory to the other

That being said, I believe a border deterrent is necessary to protect the country.

If the democrats would follow through on what they were advocating for (border security) before they started suffering from Trump derangement syndrome maybe we could get a budget passed and reopen the government. But they have other priorities like ending the electoral college, launching more dead end investigations into Trump, a new green deal, ect.

Here is pretty much the only place I've posted about it all.  People who know me ask, and I say, well we're fine for a while.

I do think that if either side thinks they can shut down for months on end or even a year there won't be a government to run because people will be forced to find other jobs.

I was under the understanding that BOTH sides had agreed to a budget and Trump decided not to sign it because it didn't include the wall.

If the new Democrat run Congress would simply pass the bill that already previously passed Congress before they took over they and get on board with something they were previously for (border security) before TDS set in they could end all of this. The bottlom line is TDS is directly responsible for our government being shut down.

As a side note if I were a government employee who could potentially be subject to my pay being temporarily withheld during a shutdown I would be sure to have an emergency fund saved up in my bank account to cover 6 months of my household expenses. That way you could pay your bills during a shutdown then use your back pay after the government reopens to replenish that fund. That is a good idea for anyone who faces potential instability with their income. In fact I have a 6 month emergency fund and my wife and I have pretty stable jobs with a stable income. However if we lose our jobs for some reason we don't have to panic too much for 6 months. Probably a good idea for everyone. Unfortunately most Americans don't save any money. As far as the TSA agents who called in sick go if they can't produce a doctor's note or other evidence showing they were sick they should be fired in my opinion.

Because in Washington, it is the GOP that always must cave into the will of the Democrats.

Why didn't Trump sign the bill that the Republicans passed?

I feel like this is turning into Berlin only north and south with a much larger scope.  The cost to patrol this wall goes far beyond the cost to even build it.

Were you in Berlin while it was divided and socialism was rampant in the East?  Not sure many West Berliners wanted to storm East Berlin.
