If the new Democrat run Congress would simply pass the bill that already previously passed Congress before they took over they and get on board with something they were previously for (border security) before TDS set in they could end all of this. The bottlom line is TDS is directly responsible for our government being shut down.

As a side note if I were a government employee who could potentially be subject to my pay being temporarily withheld during a shutdown I would be sure to have an emergency fund saved up in my bank account to cover 6 months of my household expenses. That way you could pay your bills during a shutdown then use your back pay after the government reopens to replenish that fund. That is a good idea for anyone who faces potential instability with their income. In fact I have a 6 month emergency fund and my wife and I have pretty stable jobs with a stable income. However if we lose our jobs for some reason we don't have to panic too much for 6 months. Probably a good idea for everyone. Unfortunately most Americans don't save any money. As far as the TSA agents who called in sick go if they can't produce a doctor's note or other evidence showing they were sick they should be fired in my opinion.

Working for the government should mean stability.  Thats why people work for the government.  It should not mean twice yearly shut downs. The government should run.  This isnt a small 3rd world country or one in the middle of a civil war.  When was the last time the government in Canada, the UK, even Germany shut down?  Closest I can think of for any of those was WW2 and And that's 60 years ago, during a war... A government job should mean job security and stability. Yes people should have savings regardless.  But 5 years after arriving in the USA im finally making what i did in Canada and while some of my cost of living is lower, like food, majority is higher.  But moving north isnt an option for us as my husband would be paid less and have to travel significantly more working the same job plus it would be privatized.  Our state itself has a high cost of living which is why we are planning on moving eventually.

Were you in Berlin while it was divided and socialism was rampant in the East?  Not sure many West Berliners wanted to storm East Berlin.

Those in East Berlin certainly did not want to be there either.  Why go backwards?  You can call it socialism but it was communism not socialism.  Just because you call a duck a swan doesnt make it a swan.

It was pure socialism from an economy standpoint, my wife has confirmed this fact many times; the leadership was a communistic committee system.  As to protecting the border from those that would cross it illegally, I don't see that as actually going backward.  It is the duty of the Federal Government to protect the country, this seems like something that should have been front and center.  There have been amnesties in the past with a lot of promises forgotten regarding border security, it is time to do something about it.  That may free up some ICE agents to go after visa over stays.

Working for the government also means some lazy, barely productive people are in the mix.  Potentially a majority of them.  And those types of people are not generally self-driven to save their money for the lean times.  They lay back and expect the government to keep rewarding them (with a salary) for a “job” they barely work at.

Note: This does not apply to ALL government workers.  Some actually do work their butts off.  But not all work hard.

Wait, when the Republicans had the Senate and House they passed both bills, why didn't the President sign the Republican bills?

it baffles me that somehow the Democrats are at fault! The shutdown happened even before the Speaker of the House changed party last week!

What a weird train of logic being used there.

You get the numbers and lets see how many CBP agents it will take to man this wall after it's built, at the cost of probably $40/hr wage for each of them working no more than 10 hour days, and getting premium pay at night, for overtime, plus on weekends, especially Sundays.

I'm curious!

and go!

BTW if you didn't understand my reference, the Berlin Wall was actually 2 walls with a space between for patrolling 24/7.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_Wall

i would like to know the numbers too.

someone who supported the wall would be able to get a ballpark figure for everyone to see. unless they know nothing about what they were saying

are you also asking what free college education for all would cost?

the cost to forgive all student loans?

funding universal health care? - Please do not use Bernie's numbers they were total swags, as were Obama's

cherry picking unknown requests for costs is of no help

Slackers.  They will get back pay.

I think a lack of Air Traffic Controllers is much larger issue.

If I loved my job, I might work without pay. Until I ran out of money I guess. Statistically 75%+ don't like their jobs, so my expectation is that for most people, if you want them to show up for work, you better pay them.

it costs money to go to work, and time as well, one might have spent the time working on something else that might provide sustenance.

i read somewhere that sometimes that wont get backpay.

Same for all workers. I work hard, it doesn't mean all my coworkers do.  But I don't base my work on the work habits of others.

The government mires their workers in paperwork too to cover their butts.  It should be more efficient.

Hubs loves his job.  He's working with hope of back pay. I support his decisions.

Are those things on the table though? Even remotely? I guess if Bernie had won, we would need to know that. The wall could be a reality in the near future, so the cost of funding the wall indefinitely is something we realistically should be asking.

Have it your way ... these requests for cash are what cause the logjam that leads to government shutdown ... unknown requests for some as yet unknown costs
