For example, it's disturbing to see I-129F filers/K-1 applicants ask (in multiple such threads), "After she's admitted to the U.S., we'll marry the next day and then go on a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon.  Is this a problem?"  Did no one use the time between petition submission and the consular interview to study the restrictions of the subsequent stage?  (And why would people pray for U.S. admission for a year and then immediately seek to leave?)

Yeah I noticed that a lot too. People asking "how soon can me fiance leave the US after the get married on k1?" Like why? It should be more than enough time to take care of everything when you wait for the visa. I don't understand.

Or people complaining they can't work upon arrival on k1.

Or my favourite threads when someone ask how they can apply for b2 for someone..

Literally 80% of things people ask about on here, they should know just by reading about  basic visa process. Sometimes I wonder if it's laziness or people don't believe what USCIS writes on their guides. :P or maybe they think they case is special and they can get away with things..

K1

It's definitely laziness. In some instances, I think it can be argued that people just didn't know where to look, or it's kind of like a needle in a haystack and you don't even know where to start. That, I can understand. But some things are very simple, are not difficult to find/verify, and would be answered with all of 5 minutes of reading something basic. There was a thread the other day of someone who was not getting the answers they wanted from their local probate court over the phone and was very angry at everyone telling them to take the time to actually GO down to probate to get the answers they need. There are some things you can't resolve over the phone (which I understand the frustration - I HATE getting on the phone and avoid it whenever possible, lol), but there are times when over the phone just won't cut it. This process has a lot of those instances. I've had to take time off work more than once, and will again soon, to visit certain places in person to get things taken care of, and I knew I would have to before we even began the process. Before we even applied, we did as much research as was available to us so we knew what we were getting ourselves into, all the way down to naturalization. I think a lot of people don't do that - they take it at face value, or don't look far enough ahead at what will be required or expected of them eventually. Then they get to that stage of the process and are frustrated with what they have to do and how much effort it might take.

(Pssst... let's avoid importing drama from other threads...)

In my monthly "I-129F filers' group" from 2007, I remember when a fellow's petition was finally approved.  He then asked, quite sincerely, "Can someone please direct me to the next forum?"  It's easy to become insular in our thinking, or to be consumed with where we currently are in the process.

The long-inactive, once-very-active member "Gary and Alla" eloquently posted several times about how thoroughly he (Gary, petitioner) & she planned for the future before her eventual arrival on the K-1.  Consequent to their planning, she hit the ground running as soon as she passed through her POE.  There was no dead time or hand-wringing -- only relentless progress toward many goals.

Gary made no secret that he studied the timing, requirements, and restrictions of the various stages of the process.  If all of us here encourage the same in our replies to the "great unwashed" in these forums, some or many will take the advice to heart and will benefit accordingly.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
