What is faster to get to into the US? K1 or CR1?

What would be faster and easier to get my fiancé in the states with me?

 

Options: 

 

A) he comes to the US in February and we get married,  he leaves to go back to his country and we file for a CR1?

 

B) I will meet him for the first time in February then we file for a K1 Visa?

 

Unless there are any other options to get him living with me in the US sooner.

The quickest way isn't always the best way. Especially for couple who will have only met once. Take time to compare ALL aspects of the two visa types before making a decision based purely on lust and the thrill of a new relationship.

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

 

Now a US citizen!

I personally wouldn't encourage filing for any visa immediately after your first meeting.  It could raise some USCIS' eyebrows. 

 

But yes K1 is technically faster.

08/26/14 - Alien Registration Number changed.
10/17/14 RFE was received
10/23/14 RFE/I-195F mailed back to USCIS
11/05/14 I-129F Petition Approved!!!!!!!!!!!!

12/19/14 Submitted DS-160 online form.
01/15/15 Submitted Package 3 Checklist for a request for interview!

K1 is definitely faster but theres a chance that one visit may not be good enough in imagrations eyes. 

 

So in practice,  K1 really is not that much faster. 

 

Like what a previous commenter said.. take your time... Learn the process... And get to know your partner.

K1 and not a problem for Sweden as not high fraud

how long have you talked and how did you meet ? 

those are important issues

age difference? 

look into the costs as K1 ends up being more expensive and takes longer for the beneficary to get green card to work

OP, slow down, why not focus on your first actual face to face meeting vs. jumping to immigration. The visa process is neither quick, easy nor cheap and while the K1 is a few months faster than the CR1 visa, there are several con's to it like having to go through AOS after you marry within the 90day window of your fiance entering the US on the K1 visa, not being able to work/drive/travel internationally, etc...until the beneficiary gets EAD/AP approved while they wait for the AOS which means they are stuck at home not able to do anything really for several months.

 

On the CR1 you when they arrive in the US on the approved visa, you don't have to worry about doing AOS, and they can work/drive/travel as they will have a greencard in a couple weeks from arriving in the US (following all the steps/fees accordingly). Also, the K1 visa with the AOS process ends up costing quite a bit more then the CR1. Look at the guides and do your research if you decide to pursue a visa. Good luck.

 

Also, K1s are averaging about 6-9mos minimum and CR1s around 12-14mos. With the end of the year and holidays, that timeline does slow down too.

Listen to the posters above and take your time on this relationship - you haven't even met in person. 

 

The process is lengthy and expensive. Before you commit yourself to supporting this person financially, give the relationship more time, especially in-person. 

 

In terms of visas, there are pros and cons about each one. Research them thoroughly. If you submit an application in March, you won't be together for at least 1 year from now with the quickest route - possibly 1.5 - 2 years from now.
